Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

read above.
Anyway absolutelly yes. I Backed SC when it wasn't even on Kickstarter and from then I try it on every patch, quitting after a while disgusted from what I see.
What is your opinion on the first phase of the xenothreat event ? You didn't find it cool ?

I'm at 32 min, ouch, it's a real alpha.
Don't worry, I will not talk about what I think of EDO during the alpha and beta.

Bit late for that friend ;)

But it’s fine, do it all you like. Rest of the forum is :)

If you do it in the SC thread though, you should probably expect people to point out the difference between a 6wk+ alpha and a 6yr+ one though...

I’m sure it will be a very edifying discussion. (And not a tiresome exercise in 'see alpha bad, alpha normal' tier analysis at all )

You know it was the first tidbit of content ever done in SC, for comparison every MMO or multiplayer game out there has done a thousand times better for about 20 years (and more if you count MUDs and such).. It was just a single, static mission with a fixed spawn timer (exactly 1 hour after the end of previous mission). It was a lagfest, with terrible performance even on peak gaming PCs, with dumb as rocks AI, subpar flight model and way too short TTK (those Idris went down fast. Shield holes did not help.).
A good baseline for how good a space dogfight should be, involving capital ships and smaller fighters, is Freespace 2. This was and still is the measuring stick for space pewpew and very few games can claim to compare to it in a favorable manner. I did not play Star Wars Squadrons (yet) so i cannot comment on this one. In any case, that xenothreat mission showed how bad everything is behind the graphics layer of SC: horrible networking code, poorest 3D engine code ever, terrible physics engine, and a huge pile of spaghetti code that made CiG spend multiple months with all of their teams setting up this one mission, pushing back their whole roadmap...

I stopped with Elite after 7 long years of appreciation 6 month ago.

I'm playing the other game now and would recommend any of you still hanging on to this Elite, slow-mo-phd-middle-aged-non-game which looks like 10 years ago... to get over to SC, which is already 5x the game Odyssey looks like and is going places fast.

They even communicate with the backers!

It's mostly playable, with progression now, and with ace communities like here.

I'm not a schill for them, just a convert, and I just saw how Elite ditched the game I played (in space) to make a whole new add-on game, and at that rubbish copy of SC on the surface of planets.

Come on over, SC is modern, raging and has a future.

I play SC in whatever the way I want. To participate in a stupid and usless event is not what I want.
What is instead your opinion on the last ED comunity goal?
I have the clear sensation that you don't even have a copy of ED.
I own a paid version of ED since one year but I haven't played more than a couple of hours. I don't succeed in projecting myself into the game. I know it's the lack of space leg. I hope it will be better with EDO.

Some of us have been over there in Star Citizen land for 5 or 6 years already... mostly waiting around for Ci¬G to start work on the game you're obviously dreaming about.

You're a bit late to the party, but welcome anyway. Look me up in the PU, I'm just plain Mole over there, no HD ;)

Hello all,

Our previous SC thread reached the 10,000 post limit. As such, it's time for a new thread for Star Citizen discussions. If you want to discuss Star Citizen, this is the place to do so!

As always, the following rules are in effect for this thread (in addition to the per-forum rules here).
  1. If you cannot debate the subject, and decide to debate, troll, flame, harass, stalk the user/person - your post(s) and all follow up posts will be removed and moderated.
  2. This thread is for the discussion of Star Citizen only. Off-topic discussions will be removed.
  3. Moderation will be dealt with by the Community managers and volunteer moderators. There is no need to publically call for moderation. Simply report any posts for review by clicking the icon.
  4. Posting of offensive, degrading, or mocking content will not be tolerated.
That is a lot of SC comments to fit into a single thread dear fellow.

I can't play the Odyssey alpha though...Steam registers my pre-order purchase of the alpha deluxe version from last year but the Frontier launcher won't update... as well as Steam not downloading the alpha content. Guess I'll just have to wait until FDev fixes it

Heh, no need to rush. Its definitely alpha state. I'm getting 15-40 FPS. And 40 is only when staring close up at a wall. Still, better performance than i get in SC.

I've already done the update twice on two PCs. Launch the base game, no Horizons. The option will be listed at the bottom of the launcher.

Tried all that...still no joy. No alpha option at all. It seems it's been reported to FDev support from quite a few folks who bought ED from Steam...as well as a new report from me :)

Nothing at the bottom of my launcher tab except the usual options...
