Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Some amusing comments as well.

I stopped reading at this one:

CIGs planets are the biggest of any game of its kind

But yes was quite similar argument up to that point.

Ive said it before SC is GTA in space, as in one person drives and everybody else comes along for the ride and is able to shoot through the windows or use the mounted machine gun on the back of the truck to pass the time, and then when you get where youre going the real game begins on foot. Yes you can drive cars and its fun, but they are just vehicles to get where you want to be and after a while the streets become boring. The gameplay is elsewhere. The base of the game is on foot with vehicles to get you there.

ED the game is (was) ships in space but now you can also get out and walk (well run usually, sorry @Mole HD ) and do other stuff as well, but the ship isnt just a vehicle its the base of the game (or was, I havent got EDO so might be almost 2 complete games with the choice to flip between or ignore one completely, I will do both but you dont have to do either anymore by the sounds of it)

Its interesting to note that some of the most vocal of the faithful don't actually know planets are 1/10 scale and moons 1/6 scale.

EDIT: Also just noticed this gem when they are discussing what they can do during long flights (presumably when developed).

Strap yourselves in boys....

Pool table (in some ships), scanning, mapping, repair, medical, replacing some components, mission planning, mission briefings, maintaining snub/rovers, swimming pools (some ships) bars (some ships), preparing and eating food, /shower/shaving, upkeeping your NPCs, sweeping for stowaways, looking for a good place to stop to kick a stowaway out the airlock, dealing with passenger needs (some ships), maintaining suits and weapon, gathering needed job or mission-related tools. those are just a few of the most obvious or already mentioned things.

"What you doing John?"
"Sweeping for stoaways!"
"But you did that like 5 minutes ago!"
"Yes, but I already went to the toilet twice, planned the mission twice, briefed you twice, replaced some components that didn't need replacing, twice, so its back to stoaways again!"

EDo got a long way to become good, lets hope they listen to the feedback.

It has the what now?

What is concurrency in this context?

Average simultaneous players etc etc. I.e. According to CR´s letter last December SC has an alleged 30,000 players playing daily and the average playtime is around 2 hours. This yields a grand total of 30K / 24 * 2 = 2,500 players average concurrent per hour. And that is probably very optimistic as the info is coming directly from CIG and not an independent 3rd party like Steam etc. Games like EVE or Elite have roughly (no exact figures on FDEV launcher or consoles) 10 times that.

And it seems 24 players max by instance is still a thing in 2021 for some games...

Oh you mean the Frontline arena mode in Elite? The one that’s like Star Marine (with its 24 player cap). Only it’s based in the open world, with bonus functioning bots if needed, and ships and SRVs can join in too?

Yeah just played some. It’s pretty fun :). The jet packs and shield system work well in this context, and holding points in flaming buildings was pretty intense. (As was leaping over storage shelves with my battery, shield and torch faltering ;))

It has it’s foibles for sure. (The drop ship journey for a start. And some, ahem, balancing issues).

But hey, it works and seems a laugh to play :)

How’s Star Marine doing again? ;)

Correction : 50 players on the same instance if you talk about SC

I'm not sure that's the diss you think it is. How many players in Star Marine or Arena Commander?
Elite has a soft cap of 32 with Peer to Peer while SC has a hard cap of 50 with a dedicated server/client setup.

For a game that has been playable for years that does seem rather poor.
