Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Absolutely not. Not sure how many other twitch based sim type games you have played. But just for context and reference, equivalent sim-like cockpit experience games like War Thunder or DCS easily start having network issues when we get close to 20-25 players mark. And that is server based best in class games, not even p2p.

SC trying to "sell" hundreds or thousands players based instances, server meshing or not, is just crazy talk completely disconnected from reality. Unless you go instead the EVE way, but then you stop being a twitch based space sim and become a space mouse point and click game.

I will say ArmA chunters on fairly well with 80-90 folk on a server.

From a believer on the OverclockersUK forum
i do believe the game will be feature complete in 3 years. i did predict 2024 that this game will have most of teh core features done(salvaging, medical gameplay, exploration)

2 of the above is being rolled out across 3.14 and 3.15/3.16 t0 and if you look closely on the tracker, they are working on new scanning tech and a lil quantum drone u can send out affar and scan a place remotely!

im calling it now, this game will be a masterpeice and many who doubted it will jump onboard in 4-5 years time.

This will be the new "World of warcraft" best popular MMO in the future as you literally can do whatever the **** you want!

Dont like flying ships but just wanna be a bad halo/destiny type guy? sure fps in planet and moon side!

Like mining? sure we have it(Even now its viable)

Like dog fighting? sure we got you covered.

Like exploring new planets/ bioms, caves etc? sure we got you too!

The list goes on.

Its multiple games rolled into one basically!

Heck they will even add base building akin to valheim/fallout 4! what more do you want??!?!?!

I`m not sure he is serious

Calling it now? How many times has it been called over the years? CIG themselves incorrectly called it several time. But its not their fault. Its the fault of backers for keep on giving them money and forcing them to increase the scope!!!

Some backers and CIG truly believe that its going to be the everything game. The one game which everyone will love, where you can do anything. It is dreams.txt writ large, with no consideration for reality.txt.

As we are on about other games can someone nudge Valheim to offer a Console version? You lot sold me on it and I want it and aint even seen a screenshot, seems like gameplay is more important to me than visuals.

Valheim is one of those very special games where after 5 minutes, the deliberately crude but very pretty graphics mean absolutely nothing at all. Gameplay is all. With it's massive success on PC thus far, I see no reason that a port over to consoles can't be a thing at some point. The control schemes are already there, I use my Xbox elite controller to play :)

Well, it's almost like Minecraft up close. Then it isnt, because it isn't rectangular like Minecraft. And I lock at the see and it's not blocky at all. I honestly don't know. Especially the sea is looking super detailed to me.

Its amazing though the vistas you can see despite the crude graphics. Today i was doing a run through black forest from gathering silver, crested a hill, and looked down on meadows and a river flowing into the ocean with the sun shining through the trees, and it was such a sight, comparable to the best games like Skyrim have to offer.

It really goes to show with good art direction you don't need billion polygon models and ultra HD textures.

Good job CR saved PC gaming all those years ago then or it wouldn't have had a chance :) I bet hes saved a few computer shops as well for that matter, wonder how many PCs have been sold or upgraded trying to get even 30 FPS out of SC...

it is good to see small teams release something awesome and get blown away by the response though coz of word of mouth....rather than large teams release nothing and get paid for it coz they are good at marketing...or worse releasing videos produced by someone else as completed gameplay....or as CR himself said something like 'You can lie to publishers coz they dont know any better so that's OK but not to backers coz they do'.

As games go for me...since late last year I've been absolutely engrossed in two games in particular, both I wrongly assumed wouldn't hold my interest for longer than the time it took to fire them up on my PC. Valheim being one, the other being a 4 year old Playstation title by the name of Horizon Zero Dawn :)

If HZD had been simultaneously released across all current platforms instead of being locked away behind Sony's exclusivity wall for 3 years, to my mind it would have been a Rockstar beater. Since December, I've sunk almost as many hours into that gameworld as I have in the Witcher 3 or RDR2 on both the Xbox and PC over the last 3 years...HZD is absolutely stunning and very, very special.

You think Dual Universe is peddling crazy talk completely disconnected from reality as well?

They are talking about doing the same thing.
