How do I get a refund?

Don't see how that has anything to do with OP not liking the new content and wanting his money back. Just because Frontier has success doesn't mean everything they make is perfect and worth putting up the money.
He preordered a video game. That's like buying tickets to a movie. Just because you don't like the movie doesn't entitle you to a refund.

If he wanted to evaluate the game before purchasing it, he could have waiting until after the release before purchasing it.

Except playing games and watching movies in a cinema aren't the same thing. Steam offers refunds and one of the reasons is exactly this. OP isn't happy with his purchase and with the way Frontier released the game without listening to the players input about certain things. He can ask for a refund if he feels that way.

Exactly.

And looking at the reviews of the game so far on Steam I am far from the only disappointed customer.

Worked it out. Odyssey just an all round downgrade at the moment for me.
Can you let me know if you were actually able to get the refund from Steam. I was told that Steam does not refund DLCs if you have more than 2 hours on the base game. Also, Fdev replied back saying they cannot do anything about it because it wasn't thru them.

thnx

I take it Frontier don't answer to their shareholders like other companies, therefore you have to refund your preorder.

FDev answer to their shareholders at their AGM in Cambridge in October. I will be there (Covid willing) asking why on earth FDev's biggest release of the year was botched in this manner. Heaven forbid FDev answer to their customers. I mean, if they listened to their actual customers then some of todays issues might have been mitigated. I feared another Cyberpunk 2077 debacle and FDev are delivering exactly that.

Running into the very same problem myself.

Aww... It's cute when you don't realise you're being mocked...
I was pointedly ignoring the fact that your comment was rude, somewhat off topic and ignorant. Since you have drawn attention to it let me be the first to point out that your comment was rude, somewhat off topic and ignorant.

We all have something to bring to the conversation, if that is the best you can offer then I suggest you stick to in-game PvP rather than chat.

That assumes you can even get in game which at the moment it seems no-one can.

I bought the update today. Seemed like a good time to download, while watching Youtubers getting kicked off every time the server went down :) I actually managed to log in, start the game, realize that my bindings were gone, fix that and jump back to Jameson. Performance wasn't good, but occasionally it was ok (Reverb G2 @ RTX 3070). I don't like the crunched blacks, and the star opacity maps are messed up, but once the dust settles, I think I'll be fine.

Think about it. Fdev have probably been sweating blood 24/7 up until today, and now they have 500.000 angry gamers shouting in the phone.

lets face it guys, elite dangerous and horizons were a mess when they came out but over time and a number of patches a lot of issues were fixed, some were not granted but a lot were to a playable state so things take time.

Imagine the amount of code in a 100gb game, code would stretch round the planet 2-3 times. Thats a lot of code, bound to be a lot of mistakes.

I certainly wasnt even expecting to even download odyssey tonight or next few days and Im holding back on that till its more stable before installing odyssey. There will be a huge amount of players downloading it and server overloads so expect that and dropouts.

As much as I love this game, it's hard for me to argue with anything the original poster said.

I'm willing to give this some time, whereas Welsh Wizard is not. That's probably the only point where I differ from him, and that's really a matter of prerogative. And in his defense, I remember John Carmack used to say, "We'll release the game when it's ready to be played." Sound advice, which in the case of Odyssey, would have obviated this post entirely.

One week from now, hopefully we'll all look back at this and laugh over a cold refreshing Lowenbrau. Glass half full !!!

Why would the customer need to care what the corp is content with?

If you parse again what I wrote you will see that in that text I was making the following points:

1. Frontier ought to be dissatisfied that its customers are unhappy with the buggy game they preordered
and
2. They should be especially disatisfied if their customers no longer wish to preorder their future games (losing profitable early sales).

Have I made that clear enough for you?

Aside from my ramblings in a few threads on here during the alpha, no one had any fair warning the release was going to be like this. Those who vehemently denied that, insisted it was just an alpha, spouted insane theories like theres just no occlusion culling yet, should feel ashamed of themselves right now. You owe people suckered into buying this an apology and Fdev owes them refunds. Instead of trolling this thread maybe put on your big boy pants, grow up and get a grip.
