EDO is draining the enjoyment of the simple act of flying around for me.

First things first. I enjoy the on foot gameplay, there are still plenty of issues with it but the bare bones I enjoy.

However.

The simple act of flying around in the game is getting drained of all enjoyment, the planets are way more repetitive than anything in Horizons ever was. Even before they did the beige 'fix'.
The renderer is horrible and can't keep up with even the slowest of ships (I fly slow ship mainly)
I thought it may be my system but It's not, I throttle all my games to 30fps (I never have any issues at that speed) and my system is only being pushed to about 50% load on both CPU and GPU and yet I still get crazy tiling and terrain pops even o the 'ultra for render' setting with work set to maximum.

Honestly this just makes me sad and really stops me from wanting to play as you still need to fly everywhere. :(

On foot everything looks great but.....

It's like they have created the planet gen system to look great on foot and screwed it once you get a little bit of altitude and speed going. ED for is still predominantly a space ship game but it taking all the fun out of flying said ships.

On a side note, where ahs Braben's dream of true proc gen gone now that EDO is using pre-generated tiling for planets??

Well then you must be playing on a potato computer.

Hey, don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger!

Nope, not a potato, not top spec now but only a couple of years old and like I said with everything set to ultra and all the setting on max it not even being taxed.

Which simply means it's not the hardware but the software that is not performing. I deliberately set my FPS to 30, i guess I could un-throttle the FPS to see if it makes any difference but it shouldn't... vOv

2080Ti 9900k i9 32GB RAM installed to an SSD, all liquid cooling, ultra settings, capped frames at 150, I also have terrible issues of rendering, suddenly running into things because they didn't render until I hit them, and massive frame rate drops, while my PC is under minimal load. This isn't a hardware issue.

Does it go faster with an aerodynamic case?
Like you wouldn't believe! Let me tell ya! Check out the curves on this thing!

I couldn't agree more, and to be honest performance was pretty ok on my rig, even in VR. I didn't even have any connection problems or crashes :D

I understand that everyone plays differently, has different expectations and enjoys different things so it's just purely a reflection of my own enjoyment; but the planets now are just so utterly boring to fly around that I can't be bothered.

Knowing that this crap is getting baked into Horizons later down the line essentially, and without a shred of hyperbole - kills the game for me. I'd love to think there'll be something worth flyin' for in future, but I don't think it'll happen.

Could be causing some issues itself, as Elite: Dangerous has always tied a lot of not so intuitive stuff to render framerate.

That said, there is something seriously wrong with terrain generation/LOD. Even on foot, I can watch the terrain morph and shift in front of my character, not more than 20-30m distant.

Well I have never had any issues in the past with ED and throttling fps. It's even in the options so I can't imagine it's detrimental in that way.

Tbh on foot is fine for me. Clear view for a good while etc but admittedly I haven't done much wandering out on planets yet, just been around settlements etc.

In a lot of ways the game feels to have been reworked to cater to the fps at the detriment of the flight experience.

I’m starting to think at least part of it is network related, which worries me. What’s your most recent speed test say?
