Yong Yeas take on Elite Dangerous Odyssey (Not Good)

look at the end of the day yong yea is known in the past for lying by omission or just making things up

he went through some reviews looked at one guy who more than likely experienced a bug once and is fixating on it yong yea out of everyone is just looking at that one review and going "everyone is falling through the floor everyone is dying for no reason everyone is-" and its just not true

as i said earlier i have not experienced all that many bugs since the alpha maybe 2-3

yong yea also i doubt has even played the release he's stating thats that are factually not true like dying in battle sends you to a station it doesn't you just spawn in your ship in low orbit (if you took a dropship there thats your problem)

calling the combat bullet spongy the combat was improved significantly since the alpha at least weapons now deal damage to their opposing mechanic now and when you start upgrading them the damage goes up

if you don't like the use laser switch to bullet formula then you have an option for that plasma weaponry they deal as much damage to shields as they do to flesh the projectile is slower as a trade off so you need to be a good shot but i feel thats actually pretty balanced
Your opinion won’t change anything. His will.

When I need worthless opinions from a nobody..... I'll get back to you.
This is pure head in the sand. Is this the end all be all of Elite commentary? Nope. But this game exists in a global marketplace. This company's reputation is tied to its releases. Unless you'd like to see this franchise die on the vine, then sit up, take notice, and let's all start pruning this expansion. This is a community that is at odds with itself. One side says "I love Elite and stop being negative," the other is saying "I love Elite and we all need to fix it as a community." Which side do you think will get better results?

Streamers / influencers, for 1 second of the internet, were authentic and real. Virality was real, and how you earned it was authentic, often accidental, and raw.

Then, as we should have expected they would, gargantuan corprations and wealthy people saw the amazing low-cost/free advertising, influencing, and public relations management ability of viral content, and they began to learn how to buy or contrive this phenomenon for themselves, for their own interests. And here we are, with politics, culture, economy, and elite dangerous, all a royal mess.

Well, that was rude.
Everything ok there, buddy?

Hmm, I sometimes watch this guy, but his ignorance on this subject is destroying his credibility in my eyes. Mostly an emotional reaction from my part. It's not his fault. He's merely an outsider looking in.

Oh, so now knowing who the guy is, is a proof of ones ignorance, laziness and stupidity?
It also reveals that ones lack self-determination and personality.

Again, you're just being rude, for no good reason.

Cheers.

The market for die hard space combat sim players is small. The market for occasional or experimenting with such a game is larger. The market for players who may be tempted to do a little fps type gameplay in such a larger expanded game ...maybe larger still. Fdev doesn't have to convince the die hards to buy the game, they're almost certainly going to buy it no matter what and already have. They want that sweet sweet new player market money. But those players have lots of other options as opposed to the die hards who dont have nearly as many (modern) alternatives. Bad publicity is more than enough to significantly impact sales to that type of player. Because you can get a FPS game anywhere that looks way way better. Fdev has actual competition in that market ...competition that isn't riddled with problems and youtube mouth pieces talking down your product to every new player doing research.

those youtubers are certainly relevant to fdev sales. A million followers here, a million there - the right people in some other publication hear about it and pass it along.. soon most of your market has heard the same message. Fixing that takes time. Lots of time - if it's fixable at all. Fdev knows this... they took a gamble that immediate benefits outweighed the risks of longterm. we'll see how much that pays off in the future.

It does no gamer any good to hope that there is no negative impact. It would be nice if fdev could have a "hello games" moment and turn things around. But they've gotten away with doing this crap for 6 years and i dont see that behavior getting corrected now without replacing the source of why that has kept happening.

TBH, it doesn't matter what any one of us thinks.

What is significant is that now a lot more of the gaming world knows about the launch of Odyssey.
Including a lot of financial and investor types who also happen to sometimes be avid gamers.

Outsiders looking in are exactly the issue here. This thread is about a popular YouTube streamer, yes, but look at all the news outlets covering this release. Even the friendly, Cambridge Independent, are reporting on this release.

This is not about how you feel, its about what's happing, in reality. In reality, ED is getting a lot of bad press. In reality, the game, the Frontier brand, is taking a big, big hit. The much bigger game company, Cd Projekt Red, ceased development on a multiplayer for 2077 because of the poor launch with consoles. They stopped investing in the title and focusing on patches. Unless this is turned around and quick (and I mean the gameplay) , there's a possibility this whole thing gets put on ice, because it'll drag the company down with it.

Hmm, so we'd better get out there and tell them it's not all that bad. I did my part in the comments.

Exactly. It does not. I really hope the new road map is comprehensive.

This is nonsense. They could target the game more at the zillions of people who bought kerbal space program and No Man's Sky.

There's clearly a market out there for free form exploration/combat/open world games in space.

Their biggest original mistake was trying to make this into some kind of MMO - they probably increased their own dev/support costs by at least 50% with no appreciable gain in sales
