Has the hysteria died down yet?

That's not what it reads like. Instead it read more like you were accusing anyone writing a negative review of claiming this is what FDev intended from the onset - it wouldn't be the first time I've heard such a straw man argument levied in this debate. That you include such hyperbole and terms such as 'hysteria' also does not help.

Of course, you don't need to apologize if this is not what you intended, but neither should you be given leeway if this is what was received and still feel you've made no error.
To be honest you can believe whatever it is you want to believe. I made no reference to "negative reviews", I just talked about "reviews". If people want to draw conclusions based on just that, and not the very clear examples I detailed immediately afterwards then there's nothing I can do about it.

Every single time there's an update to Elite, there is a small group of people who throw their arms in the air, claim that Frontier have deliberately ruined the game, and that they are never going to play again. With Odyssey it's no different. Everybody here knows that.
OK. Please cite an example. I haven't really seen that, and I've been here since 2014.

Look, you're not James Joyce. If what you write is open to misinterpretation, then it's not everyone else's fault, it's the fault of the person who is unable to convey their message.

Ok, fine. If you are indeed talking about the very small minority of people that post negative reviews without good arguments: yes THE HYSTERIA has died down.

As for the other 99%: we are still not happy and have good reasons for not being happy.
Thank you, that answers my question :) apologies if could have worded it more clearly 🤪

I get it, I really do. But again I was deliberately and specifically calling out the people claiming that this was all deliberate on Frontier's part. Those people clearly are idiots and should get out more.
What is your definition of "deliberate"?

Of course they did not break the game deliberately. But they did release it while knowing it was not ready for release. That's deliberate too, right?

If you're saying that I'm claiming they deliberately released a botched game, you really need to pop back and read through my comments again from the start 🤪

Fdev lied to everyone about the state of the Odyssey release and it's content. FDev also charged full price for the small amount of broken content. "In game footage" pictures pre release do not look like the planet tech that is now available in the general release.

Fdev are getting exactly what they deserve. I do not mean the rank and file Fdev employee's. I mean Fdev executive's and senior leadership team who should be ashamed of themselves. I really do hope the UK, EU, and or the USA investigate Frontier Dev over the outright lies in the Odyssey release just like Cyberpunk for CDPR.

There actually have been some lies. Deliberate lies I might say.
We were constantly told by CMs on streams how "we haven't seen everything" and "the optimization and planetary tech isn't finished in alpha and it will all look soooo much better" and how "they are listening to our feedback"...
While I'd agree that the whole "alpha is a different branch, it's all fixed in the release version" did turn out to be a big pants-on-fire moment, the question of content is more nuanced. I do believe "we haven't seen everything" in that I believe that FDev always intended to release new content over the next 12 to 18 months, and some new content has been 'found' already and we'll probably see it eventually.

For my own opinion I don't think they deliberately and maliciously misled people. I think they were overconfident and misjudged the amount of testing that was still required.

Wow, that's some classic victim-blaming OP! Yeah, of course, some of the reactions have been quite nasty and over-the-top. But FDev completely brought this on themselves by releasing a broken, unfinished and underwhelming product; something which is now becoming a pattern for them.

The alpha was riddled with bugs, UI issues and performance problems and many of us were surprised that the launch date was just a few weeks after the close of the alpha. But FDev reassured us that these issues would be resolved and the game optimised by then, but clearly, it wasn't. People don't like being misled, myself included.

Prevention is better than the cure. FDev could have avoided the bad publicity and the onslaught of negative Steam reviews by delaying the launch and fixing and polishing Odyssey. You also have to remember that FDev has supposedly been working on this release for around three years, which is not a good look!

So if this game tanks and dies, and I hope it doesn't, it's completely down to FDev's mismanagement, not the player base's reaction. So they need to knuckle down and go full Hello Games to restore confidence in the company and the franchise.

We also need to stop normalising and accepting games/expansions being released in this state. Yeah sure, there will always be some bugs and unexpected issues that slip through the net, but releases like this go beyond the pale.

Yes, some of the claims of CMs can be interpreted in more than one way. Unfortunately, they never clearly stated what they actually meant.

Yup, but that doesn't excuse the people who have been claiming they did it deliberately and this is what they'd intended for Odyssey to be (the whole point of my original post). Those people are selfish, arrogant, stupid and are only hurting the game and the player-base.

No! It's the fault of the people who couldn't be bothered to read paragraph two :p
Says every failed writer.

Deliberately, there's already evidence of that, I'm afraid. Maliciously, no.
