How come a team of 10 devs can achieve something a team of 100 devs can't?

care to explain, I didn't understand.
That's the issue, isn't it ? You can see the issue in someone's thread, but can't in your own post, even though it's the same.

You wonder why this thread exist, implying it's a useless thread. Yet, you post a useless post to mention that. You could have walked your way and ignored the "useless" thread, yet you helped adding more uselessness to it by posting. You stopped, gathered a crowd and yelled "hey look, it's useless". Making it less useless in the process.

So it leads to the reason why. Simple really, a variant of trolling. A small one. OP wanted to take a jab at Fdev, and you at OP for taking a jab at Fdev, and me, I'm taking a jab at you for taking a jab at someone who was taking a jab at Fdev. And I'm sure someone else, or perhaps you, will take a jab at me for this post. See where this is going ?

I'm also posting a useless comment, but I'm self aware enough to know that.

No jab intended, but now I'm confused, who jabs at who?

maybe you should know the difference between a thread and a post.

"You wonder why this thread exist, implying it's a useless thread."

I think you have some understanding problem.

edit: now I see, another troll.

Care to explain then? Because that's your words.

And so the cycle continue.
I said it not because it is usless, but because it is not its place.
to me the cycle stops here, I don't waste my time with trolls.
hey, more than 1400 posts in less than 2 months. Congratulations!
may be you should spend your time in better ways.

Most of it was spent during supercruise when I was trading/exploring a lot. So the better way was either to watch a white dot slowly coming closer, or youtube/twitch. I initially went for youtube (not a twitch fan really), but I ran out of stuff I'd like to watch. And then this drama happened, and I'm enjoying myself.

I have 1463 hours in NMS
I have 9279 hours in ELITE

Elite is a vastly more complex game in nearly every way... both graphically and in systems

you cannot compare them... nms graphics are like McDonalds happy meals
I have long quit NMS... they continue to move further from what i like... not interested in flying on creatures etc
I am the same. NMS is not really my style. It is more like a survival game in space, but you can't deny the fact that Hello Games pump out updates like there is no tomorrow. And the DLSS update is truly a milestone. It improved performance immensely.

Have you even looked at the level of detail on Elites ships?

NMS is a 10gig download... elite is 60 gigs now... thats 6times the size just in assets and systems ... lets see.... 6x26=132 employees. no... you cannot compare on a even basis
You make an extremely valid point about ship detail
To be fair, this point is true, there are diminishing returns as you add more people to a project. It's the "too many cooks spoil the soup" effect.

However, Fdev's problems has very little to do with the number of actual developers, but management that micromanages, has a cumbersome hierarchy, is slow and rigid to accepting change, if any change is at all approved.

According to the glassdoor reviews, most rank and file have zero say in scheduling or prioritization, combined with the fact the pay doesn't seem to keep up with the cost of living in Cambridge making housing choices difficult, requiring employees to live far away from work to be able to afford it.

Fdev needs to start allowing remote working, and/or either create suboffices in areas of lower cost of cost of living so the pay will stretch farther or leave Cambridge entirely. That and give people some desperately needed raises. Another possible solution to the housing issue is Fdev should invest in some company housing nearby.

The "loss of passion" I've read being experienced by the devs of Fdev are because they do not feel valued as employees because of this, which makes them not want to put in all of their effort. To quote Peter Gibbons from Office Space "It makes people want to do just enough work to keep from being fired"

But sadly, these would have all been ideas that would have been easier to implement BEFORE Fdev took a $400 million dollar shortfall. I bet the investors are real happy about that, eh @David Braben ?

They probably hire freelancers for diverse parts of the project, and they might buy components and assets from other studios and have to give them credit.
Yeah they probably doing the same with NMS, that's why saying they are 10 or 25 is innacurate, we would need to see an ending credits roll to know exactly but I don't think there is one in NMS...

Just read the reviews man.

In terms of the stock, the price fell from 3225GBP to 2440GBX, which converted into USD is 351.97m dollars the company lost value over the last month due to Odyssey.

make sure to convert from GBP to USD.

just updated NMS to the latest version and enabled Nvidia DLSS with everything set to ULTRA and I get like 110 FPS even on the most detailed biome planets

I just don't understand how a team of 10 devs can do that so amazingly well, yet a team of supposedly a 100 devs are still struggling 🤔
When you have to ask questions like that the answer is usually managment.

Remember that glassdoor reviews can be made by anybody, even people who never worked there. So I can go and post that Fdev is a terrible place, and Braben personally whipped me all day long. Always take it with a pinch of salt.

However, it should be noted that there are a lot of reviews, which seems to indicate people don't stay long. Which is also mentioned a lot in the reviews.

Its.....very different, its not for everyone, but the amount of content which has been added while we've been waiting for Odyssey is impressive. Its still on Xbox Game Pass if anyone is interested in giving it a spin.
its my next go to after mass effect, always been intrigued by it but was put off by its arcadey nature

true but when you see the same complaints in different reviews it forms a trend. Plus the company itself can respond to those reviews if they are falsehoods and state that.

Reputation repair is a costly matter, the company I'm working for is doing it right now, and paying money that would otherwise go into our budget for it. It's kind of messed up when you think about it, paying a company to purposefully attempt to manipulate reviews and the google algorithm to derank "Negative links." but then again, you have cancel culture where some dipsh** with a social media account can ruin your life with a tweet, so I guess it's good such companies exist. A better commentary would be to say "It's sad that such companies have to exist."

Continuity and unity of vision. If even 10 devs from the launch of Elite Dangerous were actually still working on the game, it would be a whole different thing. Elite has no directors, no visionaries, no intentionality behind it. The shape of Elite is down to whoever showed up that day. It’s A Job.

NMS seems like an easier game to work on. The scale isn't even close to Elite Dangerous, nor the planet sizes. As well as the physics system, there is none!

Edit; all their planets are static! Nothing even moves! Elite Dangerous has a real live working galaxy!
