I wasn't personally expecting any specifics. I'm no game dev, but some common sense can tell me that its just not possible to tell in advance exactly what kind of performances we are going to get at a precise point in time.
That said, this is awfully starting to look indeed like a paid Beta.
I don't really mind it being a paid beta, but a lot of people can rightly feel cheated after for many weeks you, and by you I mean FD in general, called and presented it as a final product.
I was personally starting to have doubts after you announced the release date.
There was simply no way in hell that you could have a final master version of the game for release a few weeks after an alpha.
My guess is that the Covid pandemic grind all development to a halt. And it started to hurt FD's financials quite a lot.
They needed fresh cash and they needed NOW!
Had they presented the release as a paid Beta test, I'm certain that the sales would have been way lower.
The community would have understood in its majority, but shareholders are not that forgiving.
To conclude, my take on this is that FD decided against all common sense to release an unfinished game in order to cash in some seriously needed money.
There is no way to tell whether they did it out of pure greed, or because they whey pinned against a wall. I personally want to believe is the former.
Moreover, had FD postponed the release of Odyssey once again, pretty sure some parts of the community would have been frustrated and angry no matter what.
In the end, I hope that FD weighted the cost of this PR disaster, and I hope that the future will prove it was the right call to make.
But for that, you better start crunching like never before FD. God knows I HATE developers exploitation, but right now it looks like the only remaining option to release the game for consoles as a finnished product in time.
You allready released multiple fixes, great work. Keep em coming. And maybe, just maybe, this release will be nothing but a bad memory in a few months.
