ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous | Odyssey: Roadmap

I wasn't personally expecting any specifics. I'm no game dev, but some common sense can tell me that its just not possible to tell in advance exactly what kind of performances we are going to get at a precise point in time.

That said, this is awfully starting to look indeed like a paid Beta.

I don't really mind it being a paid beta, but a lot of people can rightly feel cheated after for many weeks you, and by you I mean FD in general, called and presented it as a final product.
I was personally starting to have doubts after you announced the release date.

There was simply no way in hell that you could have a final master version of the game for release a few weeks after an alpha.

My guess is that the Covid pandemic grind all development to a halt. And it started to hurt FD's financials quite a lot.

They needed fresh cash and they needed NOW!
Had they presented the release as a paid Beta test, I'm certain that the sales would have been way lower.
The community would have understood in its majority, but shareholders are not that forgiving.

To conclude, my take on this is that FD decided against all common sense to release an unfinished game in order to cash in some seriously needed money.

There is no way to tell whether they did it out of pure greed, or because they whey pinned against a wall. I personally want to believe is the former.

Moreover, had FD postponed the release of Odyssey once again, pretty sure some parts of the community would have been frustrated and angry no matter what.

In the end, I hope that FD weighted the cost of this PR disaster, and I hope that the future will prove it was the right call to make.
But for that, you better start crunching like never before FD. God knows I HATE developers exploitation, but right now it looks like the only remaining option to release the game for consoles as a finnished product in time.

You allready released multiple fixes, great work. Keep em coming. And maybe, just maybe, this release will be nothing but a bad memory in a few months.

They had 2 weeks. Like someone else said on reddit. It feels like this was slapped together in 10 minutes. Like a kid was writing a book report on his way to school. This "roadmap" is bare bones empty PR nonsense. They might have well just had one line on the entire post saying "we'll fix stuff".

EA is probably taking notes from Fdev on how to be a terrible company. That is how bad they are screwing this up. Only the white knights are even bothering to defend this anymore. Even then some of them are giving up and agreeing. Everyone else that has some form of standard is ready to jump ship or already has.
I'll say it in another way: they are trying to fix holes in the sinking ship. They can't plan a trip (or confirm a previous planned trip) right now until it floats again.
That's all they could say, because that's all they know

Just to be clear, are our Paintjobs going to be broken indefinitely then?

I'm shocked this isn't even mentioned in the OP.

And certainly no listening.

Apart from the feedback threads obviously .. and the direct reference to them in the OP, obviously.

("Listening" to a thread like this one we're in would fraz your brain I think and frazzed brains + software = not a good combo)

Z: Hey, Arf!
A: What?
Z: It's a quarter to five...
Z: On the 4th...
A: and?
Z: Well you know what DBOBE said..
A: Oh, fsck, the fscking "roadmap", I'll get on it, thanks Z

and the rest is history...
Well, just change the name from Arf to actually anyone in the FDEV management.
Arf is simply passing the information that he receives.
FDEV should put their face in this announcement.

Sounds like just the necessary fixing and tweaking they have to do for the console release. At least I know for sure that I can't expect anything substantial content wise till at least somewhere around 2022.
Planetary geometry and lighting is a topic that we know is close to the hearts of many of our explorers, and is something we are looking carefully at. We will of course, continue to update you over the coming weeks as those investigations progress.
This sounds a bit clueless to me. Investigations? Are these bugs or not?

I do not know what to say. I see a part about improving certain performance issues, but to be honest, it doesn't look like a Road Map. Rather, an attempt to stick an airplane wing with tape. I hope I'm just tired and misunderstood something.
