Can you tell us if Smear Campaigns are in game yet? Anyone find one with the update?

Smear Campaigns are indeed in the game, but they are rare. We'll have a discussion RE the rarity of them to see if we want to make any changes based on your feedback.
I've yet to find one either, and have wandered around quite a lot doing 'useful' stuff, which includes clearing the scavs then firing the power up and clearing out every data port and locker in the place (then removing my power regulator and powering it back down again)

While we are having a good bleat... It would be nice if indicators of where to find some materials were given: titanium plating - what sort of industry would we find such in?
Even silly stuff like Weapon Inventory Data, might appear in one of the many arsenals / military bases? No, not yet! (I have collected mine, so only half-a-bleat)

So I just saw the comment about Smears being in the game but rare. If that's the case then getting 8 would take at least another 32 weeks to find, as I have yet to find one. Assuming I find one today, that's 1 in almost 4 weeks of playing the game.

Something needs to change there.
I kinda want them to leave it until someone finds them - this puzzle has lasted longer than the one to find the Proteus :)

Are they "In the game" in the sense that the item exist in the live codebase, or "in the game" in the sense someone on the dev team has actually physically gone to a data port and verified they are, in fact, spawning? The fact that a month after release, the entirety of the current Odyssey playerbase working in coordnation still hasn't managed to confirm the existence of one, let alone the eight required, seems...odd.

I think this isn't the most important thing right here, to be honest. And it's distracting from the topic.
And just to finish up :). Zac asked in the post i originally quoted if there was anything else.

You don't pass an opportunity when they're actively looking.

As for its importance or not? Its all part of the same mat/grind balance issue.

I agree with you pretty often, more often than not, but here we're gonna differ.

If you don't want to do illegal things then PR are not an easy find.
I tried to look for them in crash sites and wreckages at POIs as part of "emergent gameplay".
This was my experience:

In the end I had to resort to abandoning missions and farming a number of PR. Not good.

Regarding power regulators, I really feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I struggle to find mission boards without a PR rewarding mission. I'm effectively sidetracked every time I want to focus on a given material because "ah, I guess I'll also wipe out those scavs for 1 more PR, oh, and those ones too".

But that's RNGesus for you, so...

For what it's worth, I mostly use big mission boards (50-70 missions) at stations where I'm in good terms with many factions (Orrere, Sol, Tun...).

That's why I wanted to know if it was logical. If it's just "There is a 0.0001% chance of a Smear Campaign in a Hab Port" then no, it's not a puzzle. If it's "They drop from Sec ports in bases affected by Blight that also have an Election" then yes, it's a puzzle.
If the other two end engineers had something like that then I'd be convinced you were right. It seems very much out of place.

I agree - which is why I was after Zac's input. I've spent enough time running around after dev-logic :)

(Well, ok, maybe a few days more...)

Edit: I mean - Opinion Polls from Tourist site Hab Ports - who goes on holiday to read Opinion Polls ....

Yeah, I'm curious now. Guess I'll take an extended peek at settlements with controlling faction in an Election state.
That's been checked a lot - it was an obvious place for Smear Campaigns (as well as Opinion Polls - they aren't election based either). I don't think any mats have been shown to be related to faction states.

Personally I was hoping they were rare mission targets like Kompromat and Slush Funds, but if they are then they are a lot rarer even than them.
