Yep precisely how I feel about it - and this affects my level of optimism when it comes to what's in store for us in the future, "potential" and all that jazz as well. I don't particularly like being overly negative about the game but the last month or two have been a bit of a reality check for me.Its what saps my enthusiasm because its another "if FD update this" situation. I have to slap myself and say "this update is only a few weeks old" and realise this is it.
All you can do is take it at face value. For me, it feels quite limiting in terms of the options - apart from scanning space plants it's basically just EDO specific settlements you can visit, nothing else (if we ignore the concourses which are essentially just glorified menu screens). What's the point of Odyssey... OK...
Odyssey has given me a whole new suite of reasons to fly my ship(s) to new, different, and a greater variety of places...
I map and land more on random planets, I drop in and check out more surface POIs...
Yes that is true, although it's actually quite limited: fit DSS, SRV bay, missile rack, your ship is now EDO compatible. I was hoping for other modules such as different vehicles and dropping off infantery above CZs (basically building your own dropship), but that's all there is to it.It has made me rethink my ship design priorities - I have SRVs and DSS with me all the time...
I thought about this, but working the BGS is more effective running ship missions, as EDO activities take longer (and pay much worse) - but fair point it does mix up things more for the BGS if you're into that.It has given me some really interesting (ime) alternative means of supporting my BGS faction, and attacking other factions...
Would have to lie if I said I don't enjoy the jetpack/weapon combo when fighting NPCs.And I do very much enjoy the combination of jetpack & rocket launcher - reminds me a bit of the Q2 grappling hook mod + rocket launcher
See above examples, but basically whenever I boot up the game, I ask myself "Odyssey stuff or Horizons stuff" as opposed to "let's play Elite" - not sure if that makes sense but it almost feels as if they're mutually exclusive, and feet-specific gameplay loops are restricted to small areas that have been added as part of the DLC. There's zero reason to visit a Horizons base on foot for example, other that jump on non-interactive buildings and take screenshots maybe. In order to get anything done you have to get back into your SRV (or indeed ship).I don't seem to see this 'complete disconnect' some keep going on about - I still spend loads of time piloting my ship, but now I have a greater variety of reasons to do so, places to go, and things to do when I get there. Odyssey has taken nothing away from Horizons, but has added more reasons/destinations to pilot my ship to so...![]()
I don't really want to stop playing, I want to enjoy Elite because take it or leave it it's the game it is now and there's no point going back to Horizons only. I've mentioned in my OP (before I edited it) that I'd even go as far as wiping my account if that would make a difference - because the idea is that would force me to engage more again with EDH content, since right now I "have-it-all" i.e. all the ships I need/want and a FC plus account filled with mats and credits. All you can do is take it at face value. If ED is a chore stop playing it and stop wishing*
*except for Powerplay update. THIS will come. IT WILL.
Then enjoy the bits you like. Its hard seeing years just wasted but there is nothing you can do.I don't really want to stop playing, I want to enjoy Elite because take it or leave it it's the game it is now and there's no point going back to Horizons only. Maybe the disconnect is because I'm triple-Elite in my ship but noob on-foot; even just saying that just shows how separate the two parts of the game feel from each other.
I never really had any issues with this with Horizons, but for some reason it's more challenging to do so with EDO. Maybe because the game seems to force you down the criminal route so often, and while I don't mind that per se I find it quite limiting. I have to steal items for engineering for example, no way around it. If I were to play a goodie-two-shoes I'd essentially have to stick to stock gear.Basically I see ED as a build your own adventure game. Odyssey just adds more adventure I can do. So for me, its all good.
It doesn't though, I haven't stolen or murdered anyone since I started, and even more so if you don't ignore the space ship part of the game. People seem to be just doing on foot stuff and completely forgetting about the space stuff.I never really had any issues with this with Horizons, but for some reason it's more challenging to do so with EDO. You haven't stolen any mats/assets or whatever we're supposed to call them? Are you not engineering your EDO gear then?It doesn't though, I haven't stolen or murdered anyone since I started, and even more so if you don't ignore the space ship part of the game. Engineering suit etc is an option - if you wish to do it, then you must do what is required. You haven't stolen any mats/assets or whatever we're supposed to call them? Are you not engineering your EDO gear then?
Edit - I assume you could get around the legal aspect by focusing on abandoned settlements only, but that'd mean everything takes even longer than it does now.
I'm not rushing to update my stuff. I'll look out for some already updated stuff when I see them. But it's not the end. I don't play to upgrade, I play to have fun.You haven't stolen any mats/assets or whatever we're supposed to call them? Are you not engineering your EDO gear then?

Can't say that I was in favour of a footy pewpew add-on, I'd have prefered personal base building anyday......however, this is what we've got & I suppose it's different & OK....ishHappy you're having fun, but EDO to me is not what I was hoping for (and my expectations were already pretty low) - sounded better on paper than what it is in reality for me, purely in terms of gameplay - the technical issues merely represent the notion of kicking a man that's already down.
Performance issues certainly don't help trying to enjoy this DLC. I had plenty of time to observe the framerate dipping below 20fps (!) on my i9700 RTX2060s over the weekend while I waited for 210 seconds (!) for some data files to download. It did make me wonder why am I doing this to myself.I actually have fun with the bits of Odyssey I've been able to tolerate with current poor performance. So far, I can only sneak around bases like a ninja and knock people out -- because getting into firefights when your FPS is in the teens sucks.
I can't wait to get more than 15-25 FPS on a computer that is well above recommended spec so that I can really enjoy it. I think it will keep me busy for quite a while once performance issues get sorted. (assuming they get sorted)

Yes, I’m very surprised. I imagined what David Braben clearly described as his vision of space legs. That is not at all what we got.People for years demanded FD do space legs.
FD did space legs.
Apparently what some people imagined it would be turned out to be not what they imagined.
Is anyone even slightly surprised?
