I'm Taking the Game's Starting Loaned Sidewinder to Andromeda, Or I'll Die Trying.

No Heatsinks? I just finished a 225kly run and had to use Heatsinks 4 times. Only half of them were my fault. The game has gotten better at not dropping you into the middle of contact binary systems, but it still happens.

I've gone 2.2MLy with no heatsinks and never died in a situation a heatsink would have averted.

Nope, there's no bridge to Andromeda available. There's a very distinct edge to the Milky Way. What I've inferred is that this is a journey to cover a similar distance (2.5 Mly), but it will have to be contained within the Milky Way.
Right.... thanks for your clarification.

That's what I thought, there is no way we can fly out of this Milky Way. Frontier wouldn't have the database to allow us to fly to Andromeda anyway. The only way is if there is a worm hole connecting Milky Way and Andromeda for us to travel back and forth between both galaxies.

As a dedicated sidey pilot, i approve!

QUestion for the OP, the experimental on your FSD, mass manager or deep charge? Light as you are, you can probably squeeze a little more jump range out of deep charge, but you'll have to scoop more.

Good luck, CMDR.
Hope you'll have fun and generate a number of interesting log entries and succeed in your challenge!

You have already achieved a lot by fitting a nameplate on the Sidey that's bigger than the ship itself!

Meh. I've never liked Deep Charge. More scooping time for a puny jump range increase. I mean, if you need every last tenth of a lightyear, then go for it. Otherwise it's just not that impressive. ;)

At this rate, I should be done by the time Cloud Tech is released along side base building!

Settling into my Neutron Groove.

I've found a very nice person with a carrier nearby one of my favorite vista's in the galaxy, the Neutron Highway, which I'm proud to say I helped try to keep that wonderful change in the game.

I'm going to try and reach 10% before I head out for some more areas of the galaxy. Think of the next few weeks as a testament to just how much I can do if I put my mind and ship to the burner.

Before I start piling neutron after neutron though, I wanted to get a quick shot of something that's been on my mind for a while.

Lets see how much ground I can cover.

Nearing that 3%!

While on my way through the Neutron Wastes, I've finally hit about 70k ly total, as well as found my very first Earth Like!

A rather weird one at that. It's a moon. I've seen plenty of Earthlike worlds that are binaries of objects, or have it's own moons, but never it being a literal moon of another object.

Overall the system is pretty weird. Two Brown Dwarfs, a gas giant bigger than two stars, and another gas giant that's almost eclipsed by a HMC.

I nearly thought you got lost along the way with that long of a radio silence - keep on flying :)

Is the Ship of Theseus still the same ship if you keep the steering wheel of the "original?" :D

Philosophical questions aside, it is indeed the first ship I was put into as a starter CMDR all those years ago. It still has the original Loaned Hull, fuel tank, and some other thing I can't recall. Otherwise, anything that could be upgraded for range and engineered was done so.
Shame you didn’t get the Pre-Ordef “Freaglel” for just that little bit extra…mines still probably back in the ”starter zone” that didn’t exist back then so it’s “sealed up“ on probably 72 Opiuchi f I were to gues. I had amassed quite a few ””Taxiwnders” before ship delivery so.my Loaner got “bulk sold” at some point so I’m super impressed you”ve=kept yours to tuse for this epic endeavour. o7

4% and 100kly reached!
1624468284864.png

Some maf:

  • I'm averaging 71.83ly per jump in a sidewinder! (Neutrons are awesome)
  • 100k is only 4% of 2.5million. That seems really weird to think about, but still cool!
  • I'm averaging 4 planetary scans per system on average. So I'm still technically exploring! :p

Here's a quick look at what the first 100k ly look like. You can see that I made up a majority of the time near the end with neutrons, and plan on using this method for a while to just knock out a few dozen more %'s!

5%, and a Goal....

About time. 95% to go. This is about one trip to beagle point and back.

To celebrate, I landed at a lava world sitting around 700ls from a Blue Super-Giant I slapped my name onto:

Kinda surprised me by just showing up on my neutron route. Aimless plotting and arrived to this gigantic mamma.

I've also set a new goal for myself. I'd like to find at least one Glowing-Green-Gas-Giant. There are only 35 known to exist in the galaxy as of now, and I wonder if literally traveling the distance between the Milky Way and Andromeda will bring the 36th to life! Who knows! But that's what is currently keeping me going!

Till next time! <3
