State of the Game

air conditioning kind of makes outside temps irrelevant. This was invented some time ago and is commercially available to the public.
Quite possibly for the American market. Here in Blighty you don't often find sash windows (except on very old properties), and trying to find one of those units you wedge in the window is like trying to find rocking-horse dung!

You can get free-standing ones that can pump the air outside, but they are very pricey! (Remember, I'm an NHS worker... I'd get more money if I was on benefits!)

You guys need air conditioning :).
I wish, but you have to pay the few thousands of € to make my house capable of supporting it, then pay the electricity for it, and finally explain my landlord why I'm making holes in his building.

We didn't need AC in Europe, because the climate was gentle enough. Except in the south, but we built in a way that it was ok, and lived in a way to accommodate the heat (siesta for example, or opening later in the day in spain).

But then, global warming came and said "'sup", and now we all suffer. Last year I saw a finish youtuber I watch occasionally, he had 30°c there. The maximum heat in summer is around 25°c and they find it hot. Poor guy was red and melting.

Those guys have sauna and global heating. Not AC.

i thought it was just the US that was pretending that global warming wasn't going to happen and so wasn't going to prepare for it.

kinda good to know that europe is in the same boat.

Oh we know about global warming, swede are the most ecological nation in the world with like 99% recycling (they even recycle poop for fuel).
Thing is, it's twisted. To fight heat from global warming, you use AC, which increase the global warming.

if you're powering it with solar / wind etc.. then the net impact is negligible.

Yeah but Eu city were built hundreds, thousands of years ago. Our street are narrow. Some can't even handle cars, the entire center of my city can't. Also, since it's full of historical stuff, you can't use solar much in town.
Still, new buildings are usually solar powered and better isolated. We learned. It's just that we weren't prepared, and couldn't be without crazy amount of money.

Also, it's not like the US is very big on solar and wind :)
