So when can i play Odyssey with decent framerates?

I get 50+ fps in Concourse on Ultra (higher with shadows on medium) with a Ryzen 3600X and an NVIDIA 1660Ti at 1920x1080 resolution.

It's really interesting to see the higher end cards struggle and I'm definitely curious why.
Anecdotally, it seems like AMD CPU folks do better. Not sure there's enough solid data to really say though. But for sure it's not a simple matter of bigger GPU = faster frame rates. B/c the 1660ti is a mid range card, but you're doing fine.

Of course I am running a gtx970 so everything I say has to be filtered through that potato-ish lens.
The GTX970 is still an amazing card, considering its age. I have one myself, and it wasn't until the last 6 months or so that I had to start compromising on the graphics settings a bit to get 60fps in new games.

Which brings me to my personal bottom line about this whole EDO performance/hardware requirements thing:

I mean, look at EDO (compared to EDH). I'm not saying that it's ugly or unimpressive because it ISN'T, it's very very beautiful (when it works), but EDH isn't exactly fugly either. Then take a look at other games out there, specifically the ones with "blow my socks off" levels of graphic beauty.

What is it, exactly, if we stick to EDO/EDH alone, that justifies a 66% fps drop (for some) between the two? Because I'm not seeing it. I like what I see (although I see it only through screenies/videos since I'm not even going to try to fry my hardware at the moment), don't get me wrong, I just fail to see the correlation between graphics improvement and the hardware requirements inflation.

Lack of Optimization would be an answer to that question I think. I am less worried about not seeing the great jump in graphic fidelity and more about places where there's a significant downgrade in that regard. Best example I can think of right now are guardian sites and beacons.

As I said in the main Post.

How can it be that I get these frames with a 3900x / 32GB Ram / 3060ti / SSD on LOW???

No real difference between 3440x1440 1.0SS & 0.5SS

Some stations are worse than others. On this planetary one I got lucky with the frames.

Unplayable on High / Ultra graphics quality
~10-15fps

Thx for the reply and apology.

How about telling us why the performance is still so bad? i mean you guys said you want to be more open with the community.
It would be also better if we know because if we dont know most people with problems will rant on how sh*t the game is. If we would know what is the cause and that you are eager to fix it our mood wouldnt be so bad and we could understand it better. but the dead silence is noo good at all.

Im being a bit of a broken record, at this point, but EDO is running fine on my 1060,32 Gig RAM, i5-4570 . Have any idea how that makes any sense? Bet they dont either. Lets just hope other games/studios dont start having these issues i.e. awesome sounding gaming systems doing worse than 7 year old systems.

This is harsh but these are fair questions to be asked. The tone might be a bit much but I can completely understand players’ frustrations growing the longer this drags out.

This guy is not wrong.
Sure its harsh but i am mad AF and they dont even bother to make things clear.

Communication 0/10

all the things they communicate with us are a bare minimum...

And if they STEAL from me under wrong promises i can be as harsh as i want!

i love Elite and there is nothing wrong with some minor bugs at release but what happened was nothing that i would describe as a minor problem with the software. But they said hey its working yadadada and now i (and many others) sit here and get worse fps with update 4 then on release
(wich was also not good at all).

AND THEN YOU CANT EVEN REFUND even if it crystal clear that it was misleading advertising.

(they can be glad noone sued them)

3.3

Marketing communications must not mislead the consumer by omitting material information. They must not mislead by hiding material information or presenting it in an unclear, unintelligible, ambiguous or untimely manner.
Material information is information that the consumer needs to make informed decisions in relation to a product. Whether the omission or presentation of material information is likely to mislead the consumer depends on the context, the medium and, if the medium of the marketing communication is constrained by time or space, the measures that the marketer takes to make that information available to the consumer by other means.

I really don't know.
Out of curosity I went to that station, Gemar Barracks, and stood where you stood.

55 FPS @ 1920x1080 on ULTRA

Then, as I don't have a hi-rez monitor, I enabled DSR and bumped the resolution to 3325x1871 hoping it might get me at least a slightly comparable test.
23 FPS on ULTRA
32 FPS on LOW

As evidenced multiple times. There is clearly something flawed with Odyssey rendering.

Hi guys/gals,

Just wanted to add my 2p to all these comments... I have i7/7700k,
32 Gb ram, Gtx 1060 6Gb, all running off an nvme ssd. I was doing pretty well with frame rates, even after last week's update.
Then I joined in the CG last week, although the game wouldn't let me join for 3 days (why?), so I never had a chance to really get anywhere with it. So I carried on plodding, and during the last 2 days, my framerate has started tanking.
Still get 60 psihtg.com space, about 45 in the hangar, 60 in the lift until it starts moving where it loses at least 10fps and anywhere between 20 and 35 on the concourse. Haven't been to a settlement since the last update, and like everybody else, my other games run just fine.

Sorry for the essay... 😉

That moment, when my results on RX480/i7-6700K/32GB are same as for 3080Ti owners :D
Well, sometimes I have stable 50-60FPS on 2K

Is it really working fine though? How does it run compared to Horizons if you completely unlock your frames? How many FPS do you get in Horizons on a planet surface and how many FPS do you get in EDO?

Back in my day I played Elite at 1 FPS and liked it!

Seriously, remember getting ganked by a large squadron of pirates or GalCop ships? Total slideshow!

I know this isn’t the most optimal solution, but have you tried running the 1080p ultra wide resolution? I saw a massive increase in performance when I did that on my 34” Dell ultra wide. For me, FPS was more important than ultra sharp resolution at this point. Hopefully, if it ever is fixed, you’ll be fine at native resolutions someday.
