Well, no. You are right.
7 fixed Cannons do very little in a 'carpet bomb' scenario, whereas 6 High Cap dumbfires (Advanced Missile Racks, in my example) are particularly satisfying, both in launch sounds and Scavs, Civilians, innocent bystanders being turned into kibble....
No shame in that, it's actually quite impressive! Takes a great deal of skill to avoid making stuff go "boom" for that long in ED!
(Or, in lieu of skill, my aim.)

I heard packhound also works if you lock the "settlement".

30 years ago it was staying at a holiday Inn that did that.
they were very open about it.
But that's not so much fun. I prefer two advanced launchers and then hovering above the settlement and diplomatically remove one disgruntled customers after the other. Very little collateral damage...
We're simple folk. We tend to call anything that goes "boom" in a satisfying manner "gun."
(Unless it's a rifle. You do NOT call a rifle a "gun"!)
