I can only speak for myself but I think the dev team are doing an amazing job. I would like to see a lot the nay-sayers do a better job with creating such a fantastic 'game' and jumping on the inevitable bugs. I think it's glorious: I'm grateful for all the work you lot put into constantly improving and expanding - and am now standing by to be flamed by the disaffected. :D

just info for GFN users: try use other server if performance is visibly worse. I talked in chat yesterday with nvidia staff and used suggestion to try other European GFN server and difference was huge. Also I suggest to try lower settings for shadows, this one it seems have quite huge importance. I went from unplayable planets to prety stable 30-40 fps in fast SRV driving and jumping over settlements.

I think F D needs to bite the bullet and admit they have totally sc***ed-up the game. The new planet tech is complete pants and should be binned without delay, the hugely varying performance of the other additions must indicate something is badly wrong in the various interacting pieces of code else why is it so unpredictable.

Please, please do not merge with Horizons - in EDH I have a game I can enjoy - in EDO I have a buggy mess of poorly performing code and a GFX card that now doubles as a space-heater as it runs at 99% load ALL THE TIME.

I'm in The US and paid 500USD for a 1080TI off of eBay and it runs the game fine but it does had 12gb of Vram :p
if think my setup is really enough fot EDO : i7 4790k@4.4ghz / Corsair ram 1600mhz@2000mhz / gtx1080@2000mhz , gdram@11000mhz / Samsung SSD ... i'm playing this game at 120/170 FPS in space / in ship, all setting to high or ultra on a triple screen ( 5900x1080 ), i've got 1900 hours of gameplay, and never had a single performance problems With Horizons.
With Odyssey On foot gameplay i've got : 20/25 max on conflict zone, 25/35 fps on planet and 25/30 in base station ( and believe me i tried so many things to fix that score, even playing at 1024x768!!! and i gained basically 5FPS, i tried to play in low, i tried even supersampling at 0.5 ! , kill all processes useless in W10, tried reshade, tried to modify proco affinity, lowering the shadows ( you'll gain 5fps max ) , try to modify all the settings in Nvidia panel....
I can say : it's definitely NOT a hardware issue.

I have an i7-6700k / 16gb ddr4 3000 / 1080Ti - have been able to triple screen @ 5760*1080 in Horizions (in Ody I get like 30 max), VR too never had an issue in Horizons, In Ody the best I can manage is a single screen 1920*1080p @ 60fps with v-sync on anything more kills the framerate and after "update" 5 I am now seeing it bottom out to 5 fps then crash to desktop and I thought 25-30fps was bad in stations on foot... am STILL trying to get the gfx stable after Thursdays patch, not to mention the whole host of other problems like killing support missions, instantly respawning scavengers, unable to complete missions as it doesn't trigger the next stage, going back into Horizons and things are instantly running better but I don't want to do that.

I know my hardware is old now, but I know this is Ody... it wasn't running this badly Wed on update 4. As usual FDev break something and then seem to stay deathly silent about it... Have we even had an acknowledgement from them yet??

I have the same specs as you same result, it appears to be an unlucky configuration. I noticed that when I over clocked the cpu it was worse if anything, so now maybe I’ll try slowing it down, as another user with i5 and gtx 1080ti has great FPS (60+ everywhere)

The fact that there is still a dev team and they have done over 1000 fixes since launch is indeed quite impressive, and virtually the only silver lining I can find in the black odyssey cloud. I launched update 5 last night, had 3 system crashes and still horrible graphics on planets. Then launched horizons just to check, no problem at all. All I can do is report these issues, doesn’t mean I am slating the dev team.

Totaly agree with you. I'm just playing "back" to HORIZONS right now. The game is beautiful.
Please Fdev " DO NOT MERGE"...

When my toilet's broken, I call in a plumber. Leaky roof? Slater. Car breaks down? Hire a mechanic. I cannot fix all those things, so I pay somebody to do it for me.

See what I mean? THEY are the experts, they SOLD a product. It is ridiculous to demand to do better. That's EXACTLY why there ARE specialists.

Nobody denies that any software will have bugs. It's a given, considering the complexity of such a game. However, a) there are so many issues, b) customers were told about a different trunk (not a tree trunk, an ignoramus such as I has to conclude), and c) putting up with those in silence would only encourage the management to tell the devs to forget it. The squeaky wheel gets all the grease -- as long as it isn't all that high-pitched, otherwise it might be gas-axed off and end in a skip bin (i.e., be respectful, be kind, don't forget there are human beings working their behinds off -- plus, those doing the fixing aren't those who green-lighted pushing this out of the door!).

Hi / o7 cmdrs,
just a question: should i buy a 2000€ graphic card to play Odyssey at a correct level ? ( let say 50fps on foot conflict for exemple )
Given that some 3080/3090/RTX6900XT users have also reported problems, I'd say hold on to your money. (Not to mention prices, at least in Germany, have been on the decline lately, as far as GFX cards are concerned.)

It's not a good idea to buy a new screen card for just ONE new game. :)

Hmm .. surfaces performance in my so far good working PC went abysmall ... ok, will go dig into settings, but right now Im not much pleased. 1070Ti .. till last patch I had all on ultra in 1080p, now there are huge performace loses when on planets.

Of course I was hyronic, my friend commander.
My point is : EDO is not a AAA game ( graphically speaking i mean ) so i think there is a big problem with the "Cobra Engine" using it for a FPS game.

I apologise -- I SUCK at recognising sarcasm. :) I was smothered with sarcasm as a kid, so I picked up the habit of treating it as the real deal. Annoyed the heck out of those using it against me . . .

Anyway, I sincerely hope FDEV manages to fix those issues. I wouldn't mind picking up OD if they do that...

Game doesn't quit to desktop. Have to use task manager.
I have an assumption that this is still due to Nvidia cards and the latest drivers for them.
Let them write on which Nvidia cards checked the functionality and with which drivers.
RFS does not help to sell new Nvidia cards.

Are those numbers for space with the Odyssey engine or the Horizons engine? Reason I want to know is that while you do have a slightly more powerful GPU (1080 vs my 1660super), your CPU has about HALF the memory bandwidth (25.6GB/sec) compared to my i7-4820K (59.7GB/Sec) has less than half the PCIexpress lanes (16 vs 40), albeit a higher base frequency (4/4.4 vs 3.7/3.9 GHz normal/boost), and I'm getting nowhere NEAR those numbers on 1440p (I did get them on Horizons)... If your numbers, if from Odyssey are (compared to mine) impressive to say the least. And if so, the only answer I can fathom is that there's something HORRIBLY wrong at somewhere critical to the rendering engine.

Obtw, are you running hyperthreading or not? Given what I posted above, and how disabling hyperthreading (or disabling half my cores) gave a 50% boost in cockpit in hangar, and a 60-70% boost on foot, that's a relevant question to make sure we're comparing apples to apples or oranges, not bananas. :)

I had that problem with the previous studio drivers (for the same reason I need hyperthreading I run studio drivers), but with the current one and Patchlevel 5, I get clean exits. So you may be onto something about it being driver related. Or it may be that Odyssey opens it's viewport window (even fullscreen it's a window) in some odd fashion that certain drivers have a distaste for.

I had no problems working alpha and all 4 patches.
But I can not understand what happened after patch 5. Constantly black screen although the game works and you can go to the main menu. Or the game starts to slow down a lot of frames in 30 seconds, many textures to a point.

Nvidia : GF1660 6Gb
