Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Hey a contract is a contract. Maybe Amazon would sue ;)

(Not that I think they’re going to move from AWS though. They’ve spent too many years trying to build 'server meshing' on top of that service).

(They totally should have gone with private servers years ago though, if they wanted to have that many bespoke servers communicating with low latency ;))
Maybe Wishful thinking but maybe it went a bit like this:

CIG to Amazon: Your servers are poop
Amazon: What?
CIG: Your servers are poop
Amazon: Procreate you!
CIG: We need server meshing
Amazon: I don't know what that is
CIG: That's why your servers are poop, i'm leaving you
Amazon: You can't.
CIG: No really i'm leaving you
Amazon: Contract
CIG: We can't make our game with your poop servers, its life or death for us, let us go
Amazon: But you're all i have
CIG: Its over
Amazon: Fine! Your stupid engine will be at the door, no use for it now.

This is good advice, with VSync on if your hardware can't quite get to 60 FPS it will run at 45, might even be 30, if it can't get to 30 it will run at 20 or 15, VSync locks your game to 60 or if not quarters or half's of that.

There are better technologies now, G-Sync if you have a G-Sync capable Screen and GPU (Nvidia only for G-Sync only screens) Free-Sync for AMD GPU's, the vast majority of modern screens are AMD Free-Sync but Nvidia 10 series and later will run Free-Sync, tho they still call it G-Sync, because Nvidia, my screen is an AMD Free-Sync screen.

If you don't have a G-Sync or Free-Sync screen you can use Fast-Sync for Nvidia and AMD have an equivalent that i don't remember the name of.

Just don't use V-Sync, ever, in any game.

That's more interesting.

Apart from the

“To make serving food more tactile and realistic, we have identified “food grip types” for the new items and we are working with the Props Team to package the food when served. No more hotdogs placed directly on dirty counters!” -The AI Content Team

Which is funny enough in itself, surprise surprise...

June saw the UK team complete the final art and lighting pass for an as-yet-unannounced ship.

Yet another ship to add to the workload debt!

I guess this is going to be for the annual citizencon whaling exercise! Probably going to be quite expensive, punch above its weight, and have a gameplay feature associated with it that doesn't exist yet and won't for years. That's my bet.

You know what i'm thinking? A ship that can generate its own jump gates! Buy one of these bad boys (for just $3000) and you can now create wormholes to any system in game (mechanics to be implemented, additional system yet to be implemented).

Interesting point. Are they?

Is the old contract they had with Amazon now invalidated?

And if so, i wonder if they will switch (and refactor their cloud stuff) to some other vendor?

One of the stipulations of using Lumberyard was AWS lockin.

For Amazon the engine was a way to get people on their servers, it didn't work, at this point CIG are / were the only ones using their engine, its not their engine anymore.

Obviously i don't know what obligations CIG have with Amazon now but it will have changed given Amazon are no longer obligated to support the engine CIG are using, that's a change in the contract, in that Amazon are no longer providing a critical level of support they are contracted to.
There will have been a negotiation between them.

I would not be surprised if its CIG finding they simply cannot work with AWS in what they need from them and instigated this, perhaps even bought their way out of the contract and they already have a new infrastructure provider in the loop, or they are building their own through Turbulent.

From what i've heard it basically boils down to "CIG is a good employer, anyone who says different is spreading FUD", backers are lapping it up, showing it to be proof that CIG are a great company to work for and that anyone who says different is just a salty employee or a liar.

Not watched the video myself, i can't really bring myself to watch BG's videos, so just going off what others have said.

As I understand, one of them left CIG in 2014.

Also, i'm not saying they didn't have good experiences in CIG. Its a big company (at least now it is) and people in different departments have different experiences.

I'm sure most of us remember the Jennison letter and the reasons he gave for leaving CIG.

Maybe he's actually not so boring as the name suggests?
