Big Elite Streamers Giving Up On Streaming Elite?

Ah, this is the nub of the problem. I rib SC backers when they say there is no game exactly like SC, but that applies for most games really.

What I really want is what ED offers in general, but not quite what FD have done specifically. SC with its single system (and even if they add 110 like backers paid for, it wouldn't still give me that big space feeling).

There are many things i'd like to see in ED and many things i'd like to see done differently. But i know i'll never get that game and its not likely anyone in my lifetime will give me that game. But ED is the closest approximation.

But for me to return to ED, i need performance, otherwise i might as well just stab myself in the leg with a fork for amusement.

On top, i really hope FD can do something with the planetary terrain generation, and they do something to reduce the grind for suit upgrades, which seems excessive even compared to ship engineering.

And i also hope they will do something with plant scanning, because only being able to scan 1 plant at a time or things get reset is just absoloutely abysmal design in my opinion.
One of the very best thing FD can do now is slash unlock requirements and let people experiment cheaply.

before odyssey im sure you will find many hopeful streamer videos, i wouldn't call white knight but there are a ton of them being nice to the game, after odyssey, well, they couldn't please even some of the playerbase (hopefully someone won't jump at me and "HEY BUT IM PLEASED")

not related to the quote tho, OA were always positive as far as i remember (im a fairly new player compared to the 11k hour ones), but saying he's doing these videos for gathering likes on the hype sounds a bit too much imo, like when he was prasing the hell out of the game was fine, but when the release came out as a wildfire hes not allowed to call frontier out? he was even way more polite than i expected.
Yes, before. Then everybody went crazy. I could understand all that till 1st patch, maybe till 2nd, Then it was already clear people work on & fix things. However that wave of hate was only growing,
Now I'm really afraid FDevs will awake some morning soon, read forum and press big red button "format all servers".

after 5 patches im still with low fps on foot and for the first time in my ED gametime, low fps on station/mailslot(even on space sometimes)
there is a reason for the "hate" as you call to "grow", i am way more frustrated as i was on release, i can't play the FPS part and planetary tech is not fully working, the 2 main selling points are not working properly for me, why would i simply start to praise the game again, if after 5 patches the main issuehasn't even been diminished?

I've seen a streamer with a 3090 OC today getting 40fps(dropping as low as 27 sometimes) on czs, like for real you think this is acceptable and they should be happy?
FDev do deserve to be called out and people have the right to be upset, if complaining will change anything i truly doubt, but these streamers getting sad cause the company that they "supported" for years is now releasing a broken product and barely fixing it after a month, let them be, they are on their right.

after all, most of them are not working with fake news, they are just showing how the game is right now, and how frontier is misleading people again with their words

Now I'm really afraid FDevs will awake some morning soon, read forum and press big red button "format all servers".
well if they pressed the big red button "warning this is still in alpha, do you REALLY want to release?", i doubt they will do this (or will they?)

Nah. Stick to guns. Go down with the ship if necessary. Before long people will remind themselves that nothing in SC has any mass and that NMS - as enjoyable as I'm sure both are - looks like a Chernobyl zoo.
LOL! One of EDs worst aspects is unnecessary gating. Tech brokers, engineer unlocks, blueprint costs.......a lot of people won't bother because they hate grinding. Someone posted a suit mat list, and its huge.

Engineering should be about experimentation, not the drudgery of obtaining everything.

Disagree with all of that.

It's done. Everybody know about, people are working as fast as they can. No need to force hate which adds stress to fdevs slowing them down more.
That streamer which "quit ed" yday. 4 topics in 1 day on forum! Same scale of attention as Jesus death & resurrection.
Usually I don't care what people do. But last 2 years were remarkable by loud "cancelations". And I'm afraid now that all going to cancel Elite. That will be not FDev's fault, but people who supports wave of hate in any way.

I empathize with this an would view it similarly. Even if all the performance issues and bugs in EDO were fixed, the DLC doesn't really interest me all that much and offers very little in terms of engaging game play:
  • Ground combat. I'm not really a combat player to begin with and even if I were EDO doesn't really offer FPS game play that cannot be found far better implemented in many other games.
  • Xenobiology. Let's face it, this game loop is so limited that you'd be forgiven if you thought it was an afterthought. Additionally, it's clear that the potential variety of 'life' is so limited that you'll quickly start seeing the same plants and bacteria quite quickly, long before you get anywhere near Elite rank in it.
  • Stealth Missions. This has potential, but it's really not enough to warrant the grind necessary to engineer your equipment. On this note, and as you mentioned, that there is no value in EDO game play for Horizons/flight players means that there's little or no inventive to engage in it. If you principally enjoy flying your ship, there's no reason to ever play on foot.
So, like you I find myself approaching a point whereby I'm also running out of self-defined goals. Beyond ranking up to the top levels with Empire and Federation, heading out to Colonia, and unlocking the Engineers there is probably the only thing l've got left, and I'm not sure it's worth the effort. So while I'm still happy to play, I can see an endpoint looming where there's nothing really there to keep me.
Thing is, I do like combat but still find the way it's implemented in EDO very meh, and the performance isn't making this an enjoyable experience on top of that. Everything is just so bare bones, and beyond BGS work (even if everything worked as intended) there is no reason to do on-foot CZs other than for fun - which is limited because they play out in exactly the same way each time. The whole sphere of combat is a bit of a joke as well, games that came out over a decade ago did this better.

Whenever I see someone playing the game on YT I get the itch again, but once I'm actually in the game I'm thinking, now what?

Not helped by the many issues that are left in the game with no further patches in sight for the foreseeable future. I've been playing this game religiously almost from the very beginning, and I never went through a period of such.... maybe sounds a bit overly dramatic, but ... hopelessness?

Just feels like the beginning of the end and even during the content drought periods I didn't experience this - but there doesn't seem to be anything at all to look forward to. Sad thing to say less than a couple of months after a major update was released, really.

PS - I just had a look at last night's CM stream - found the lack of performance issues rather peculiar... I guess Frontier splurged on some beefy hardware to hide the fact the game runs like a dog for the majority of players who don't have PCs that cost more than a small car.

That the fun of engineering is playing with new toys, or flying out to Marco to deliver 1 more modular terminal?

I'm not calling for a total erasure of unlocks, just make them sensible. Rather than several tons of Lavain Brandy just being one as a token. You went there, got it, so why have to repeat it?
people talking about an area of the game they don't focus on: "Make it easier! Make it simple! remove it!"
people talking about an area of the game they do focus on: "Make it more complex! Make people get involved! Spend time on it!"

Meh.

So you say that, the reason that elite is being cancelled is not due to the botched release approved by FDev and their terrible management of the whole situation afterwads(and many, MANY times before too), but due to streamers who, for years, made good elite content reachable for old and new commanders(probably getting new players in the game, me included), but are now sad as most players due to said FDev actions?

(pardon my extreme comparison but its 5 am and its the first that comes into mind) this sounds like if covid wasn't the real enemy, but the press covering the situation, cause they are causing people to go insane due to excessive coverage, makes 0 sense in my head, really.

Engineering should be about experimentation, not the drudgery of obtaining everything.

I don't argue there's no case for looking at the materials lists and taking the edge off but the problem with making everything free is suddenly there's no reason for experimentation. One guy comes up with the max loadout and - click - everyone else loads the same. Call it gating, OK but if you turn up with guardian weapons but I never went there where's the interest in me going to Raxxxla to get mine if you can instantly say hey, that loadout's better - click - or more importantly - let me get my chequebook - now I have it too.

Look, windows 95 was horrible. 3 years later it was windows 98 a bit better ... and so on. It's not even comparable scale of software to Elite. And nobody was doing hate videos with "lets move to Mac/Linux".
That guy from yday (hawkings?) he could just silent stop play Elite and respond something in comments. No. He made good bye video so that video enforced + 4 hate threads on forum. I never seen that guy or video but I felt that through the forum. Just small example, but when many streamers do the same, forum just explodes.
And nobody checks if they say true. They show pictures, everybody trust them. But suddenly pictures are outdated, who could imagine? But hate is thrown already, that guy with fake pictures has plenty ed haters in comments.

Well grind always has been the cheap ersatz for content.

FDev do love their saccharine.

Quick build experimentation is a lot more fun than unlocks behind lists of engineering mats long as an EULA.

This game still has a few amazing hard candy pieces though.

But thats an issue of balance, which is separate. And its a bit of a stretch to assume I'm making it all 'free'.

By all means have the mat requirements, but make them sensible.

Who even bothers with Guardian, human tech modules? The barrier to unlock them all is so high people stick to the absolutely necessary ones and skip the rest. Why do I need to unlock each size as well?

Meh.
Making unlocking levels high is not adding complexity, its just time gating. The balance of cost v reward is not yet right, and for suits is far too high.

I'd much prefer engineering based on having to do missions for an engineer that got harder the more you wanted.

This runs through the entire game, and people are surprised why others play relogski.

Take the Guardian grind - and it is a grind unfortunately - doing the Structure loop once should be enough and keeps the experience special; doing it several times to achieve X numbers of the required mats/blueprints cheapens the experience.

For my alt account I previously wanted to unlock the FSD booster - which you can almost do by doing the Guardian Site run once, except that the Guardian Tech components or whatever they're called are the rarest drops yet they need 25 or so of them. So you need at least relog once or twice (depending on RNGesus) to achieve that number, or you visit another site (which you would need to google first because the game's not as forthright with the locations).

Why? Because FDev just pulled that number out of thin air because they assume it extends the gameplay loop. I mean, it does, but tediously so. And they went all-in and doubled down with this approach for the EDO engineer grind, to the extent that I'm simply refusing to engage in it beyond G3, and not even bothering to unlock most of the engineers as a result. It's game design that belongs into the 1990s, not 2021.

if you look for it, there was negative press im pretty sure. videos weren't the trend back then, but they are equivalent.
That guy from yday (hawkings?) he could just silent stop play Elite and respond something in comments. No. He made good bye video so that video enforced + 4 hate threads on forum. he has a community to respond to, like FDev, but just one of them gives explanations on what are they doing and why are they doing. He said he was sad with the state of the game and wouldn't get in the hype to bash the game, he would simply leave(also for monetary reasons since people are not quite interested in ED content as of now, i wonder why?). And yet he is wrong? I really can't understand your point here.
Whoever did "hate threads" on forum did cause they wanted to, Hawkes didn't paid them, told them to do so or something. Forum exploded due to the terrible odyssey release, complain at FDev, not streamers/youtubers.

And nobody checks if they say true. They show pictures, everybody trust them. But suddenly pictures are outdated, who could imagine? But hate is thrown already, that guy with fake pictures has plenty ed haters in comments.
Claiming nobody checks is a lie, he plays on groups, the said video said he tried to found X item with players and even put a bounty on it, so people DID checked, he has an average community(even on discord, he was there before the video launched and was speaking sadly about the said video) and he's very active with elite content, at least SOME of his community has odyssey and knows how garbage it is as of now. But as i see you are speaking about "outdated pictures" pointing to ANOTHER video that's not Hawkes related, so its a different matter.

Do a required action once, and make it fun. Thats all I'm asking for :D

Complexity can come from managing relationships between engineers. Why is it the lawful ones don't hate the unlawful? If this was so, you could then have it so you can't have all engineering available because some engineers won't speak to you.
