Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

You need high FPS for VR to work properly, over 100 or it'll make you feel sick, you not going to get that in SC, its also why EDO doesn't have it.

Classically it’s 90fps in both eye renders for a good experience yeah. (Although many VR heads scrimp by with less ;), and most systems have an emergency 'reprojection' mode which allows for smooth-ish headlook with lower frames).

So flight & SRV still chug along for me on VR High defaults in EDO on a 1080. Mainly fine. On foot gameplay though? Yeah, that’s not ready for prime time ;)

It doesn’t unfortunately…

Def don’t expect SC to be functional in VR via vorpX etc. There are a couple of enthusiasts that ring the bell for it, but as the vid describes there, the scaling is apparently too out of whack for use with even hacky stereo effects, and the piggybacking they do on TrackIR system means the headlook itself has a ton of latency. (On top of general performance struggles etc)

It’s a 2D headlook novelty for most unfortunately. Not a way to play the game.
Yup, just do what us flat screener's do...buy a head/eyetracker, or in the case of SC...use your cheap 1080p webcam for face tracking, then you can even pull faces while you're doing it and post up gruesome YouTube videos ;)

Just took the plunge and signed up with the Avenger Titan pack, also found a handy coupon that gives you 5000uec.
Add some folk from here to your contacts list in game...we're usually a soft touch for gifting a few hundred k aUEC to starving newbies :)

That DarkLaw guy makes similar claims about low-flying having issues it seems btw: "since 3.12 Patch came out the Desync in the game will randomly explode you for no reason at these heights".

Guess maybe it’s fixed in PTU, (or just better on test servers?)

Either way, this is kinda badass, will give the grumpy lad that :)

The PTU servers, especially during wave 1, are less populated when compared to general PTU or live servers...which is where we'll see the desync get back to truly ridiculous levels.

If I had to use one word to describe the experience of playing Star Citizen since 3.5, it would be desync, it's getting worse every patch...and there wouldn't be one voice raised in argument with that assessment amongst regular players whether they be PvP or PvE. It's become the defining feature of the entire experience no matter what you attempt to do...from PvE mining to PvP dogfighting or even walking through a door.

We all know that adding 40,000 individually rendered and wind blown cherry blossoms on the promenades at Orison was what the idiot Roberts wanted to portray in his personal vision of Bespin...but those 40,000 little cherry blossoms or leaves or whatever the hell they are are crippling the already overloaded servers. Never mind the volumetric clouds, insane lighting budget, hundreds of moving NPC's and floating space docks all with positional thrusters...

The frame rates anyone gets client side with a fancy NASA registered PC means absolutely nothing if the servers are running at 5fps with a tick rate lower than my pulse. Now tell me once again that the little fps counter at the top of my screen really matters...

CIG has finally created the first EVER full scale 100% realistic science-based explorable walkable REAL gas giant in gaming, only further proving that it is the ULTIMATE software powerhouse. This is the stuff of dreams(.txt), they're truly advancing game development, nay, mankind by hundreds of years by themselves.
Breathtaking. NASA will probably license SC so they can study gas giants.

This has to be parody. Nobody can be so far gone in the head.

LOL, i call SC "second life in space" as a negative thing.

Jorunn calls it that as a positive thing.

Kinda sums Jorunn up though. Pleasant enough chap and all that but lives mostly inside his own head...I always wonder what happened in the first life that makes it so frightening that anyone would find a weird sense of normality in an imaginary second one... Imagination is a good thing but when you start to live in it, there's an issue somewhere :)

Yeah. Got nothing against people who enjoy Second Life. I find it strange that some people want Star Citizen to be Second Life in space.

I know very little about Second Life...apart from the weird YouTube clips I see very occasionally where someone has turned it into a 'dating someone elses wife' simulator

Back in simpler times before everyone lived online...some folk held those strange parties where all the guys chucked their car keys into a bowl just to see who's wife picked them up. I suppose the trick back then was to not to be the one with the Ford Escort keyring. Those parties would never have been any use to me anyway, I would've needed to chuck a spare crash helmet and leather jacket into the bowl as well :D

Nice to hear combat is better (at least in the opinion of this poster), but they write this...

This is freaking great. Compared to what it used to be, this is the kind of combat experience that will make SQ42 worth buying (I have no bought it yet, might now consider doing so)

Why? Why would anyone at this point buy SQ42? If it does one day release, then buy it then. You can wait for reviews to see if its any good. Its not like you can play test it now. People are strange.

Meanwhile, in the 'verse CIG have added dwarves and halfling races!!!

Nobody has actually 'bought' SQN 42 anyway. For the last few years, it's been included free with most of the game packages. Even going back a fair while to pre 3.0...you could add Sqn 42 to your original game package for an additional $15 :D

I dont think there is anything science based about a gas giant with a breathable atmosphere.

In lore it was terraformed, quite how you ####### do that i have no ####### idea but science fiction :)

The spacewhales apparently breath it :)
You know how this started right? A Happy Hour game dev vote, Backers voted for a Space Whale, so they made one, live, then in the live chat backers pressured them to use the result, they didn't make any promises but it seems they have found a way to shoehorn it in sideways, oh yes, its real, there are, or will be actual space whales in Crusader.

I meant to ask the other night...how are you finding combat in 3.14? I tried a bit of PvE bounty hunting tonight and I kinda like the new balancing. I'm still using my all fixed weapon dakka build Hornet ghost for the moment...but I've got fairly decent trigger discipline so I'm not burning through ballistic ammo like I've seen some of the spray and pray lot get up to. I'm also used to on the fly power management during combat with playing ED so that's nothing new for me either. Using Voice attack deals with all of that anyway, same as in ED.

One thing I couldn't master was the locking and firing missiles, not that I use them a lot outside of the bigger torpedo boats like the Tali or the Eclipse...I've not managed yet to actually fire a missile...not even sure they're locking on properly even though selecting the missile lock unlocks the target in the HUD for me and I have to retarget it. I've been hit by a couple since the countermeasures are broken in this latest PTU patch. I can't check my HOTAS bindings of course since the controls menu is still broken...but voice attack doesn't seem to do what it used to in 3.13 with locking and firing missiles so I'm probably missing something important with the rebinding of something or other on my flight stick...

I had a go at it a couple of days ago, you get a lot less ballistic ammo now, about 850 rounds instead of about 3000, and you can't just BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR them until you run out, they over heat after short bursts but are also devastating on the target, pew pews while infinite are similar, they run out of charge after short bursts and if you keep using them right after a charge cycle over and over again the charge and fire rate slows.

Its clearly designed to make you use your noggin, if you don't, if try to spray and pray you will be defenceless in under a minute.

I like it. :)

I did forget to try out missiles, i might go back and do that at some point, the 325A has a pair of size 4 racks in a trap door on the underside between the wings, they have never worked and given that now you can select between different missile types you may have installed before firing them its worth testing to see if they finally fixed it, those twin size 4 racks along with the size 4 chin mount are what makes the 325A the one with the punch out of the 300 series line, would be nice to use those size 4's.
