Why it's not a big deal that i'm no longer playing Elite Dangerous

sorry to burst your bubble but your very very wrong. Elite (PC 1984), Frontier: Elite II (PC), Frontier: First Encounter (PC), Elite Dangerous (PC only until 2015), so how you can see it is a PC game since 1984 and just last 6 years consoles were added.
Or to express what you wrote another way, 'a bunch of games released 25 years or more ago and the current one, which has been sold on consoles for the last six years out of its seven year life'

First of all this is not another rant topic. I don't intend to bore you with a lecture listing all reasons i think Odyssey sucks either. You should not read the following thinking of right/wrong, black/white, good/evil.
Nope. Not thinking that OP, just thinking wall of text.
-----
Edit: Now that I've had time to read the wall of text, I see that it's the same old, mostly correct, criticisms of Odyssey and Frontier.

The simple problem I have with Odyssey is that the quality and quantity of the game play is not compelling enough to warrant the work involved unlike previous versions of the game.

Hello commanders,

First of all this is not another rant topic. I don't intend to bore you with a lecture listing all reasons i think Odyssey sucks either. You should not read the following thinking of right/wrong, black/white, good/evil. I also do not have the presumption to bear all the truth and cover all the details, it's my opinion, based on my feelings and own experience. I decided to express the specific thoughts below in hope it helps you, another commander and human being like me, to deal with the current situation and perhaps Fdev, in case they decide to care about customer feedback.

I was an assiduous player in Elite Dangerous since march 27th 2020, totalizing 2.787h of gameplay.

Yes, i'm very frustrated, upset and saddened by how everything went with Odyssey's launch. Elite Dangerous was a precious harbour during the pandemic, enchanted my days with the colors of stars during all the dark uncertainty we all lived/still live and i can't ignore it, i cannot just turn my back in indifference.

Still, listening to what older players have to say about how previous launches went (e.g. Horizons/Beyond) makes me think that all that is happening could not be that unique and special situation but the result of a poor development/deployment process a company has and its reactiveness towards listening to customer feedback/to implement continuous improvement practices. A big distance yet to be covered towards "being the most respected entertainment company in the world", right Mr. @David Braben?

The profound lack of content. The known large but shallow galaxy we all love. It is true that Odyssey has implemented absolutely nothing but painful grind and i'm not ignoring exobiology. The sad truth is, it's always been like this. The Elite Dangerous Universe has potential for awesome lore and was built uppon the bones of powerful tales, that were never been properly explored by the developer. Raxxla? It's probably hidden behind the doors to our cockpits, in the also previously affirmed ship interiors.

This all leads to why i started playing Elite in the first place. It's not about the game but what we can make out of it, the liberty we have. It's fun and memorable due to what the community made out of it, not Fdev lol.

We all had our dreams crushed by Fdev, but they did not intend to crush it in malicious intent, they did by lack of competence and greed. Their plans certainly are not to turn ED into a factory of frustration and hate. There are good people who wakes up everyday to face a whole new day of challenges, that sacrifice and do a lot of effort to reach the end of day in peace with their consciousness. Everyone wants to do the right thing, and so does Fdev employees, no doubts in that.

Things will go back to normal eventually, as they did before. How long will depend only in the competence and greed of those leading the company, and you can't make money out of a broken, despised product, not with Frontier's current business strategy (supporting titles in the long term). The train doesn't seem to be derailed, just in a track that only the leadership believes is right.

Until then, you're not bound to ED. All the magic you felt in the game are in fact within your own self and you can port it somewhere else. I love space, i love exploration and i'm having an absolutely great time playing No Man's Sky. What a beautiful, well developed, well thought and entertaining game, hours flows fast when i'm playing it. There's also Star Citizen and other cool options, do a quick search and trust the recommendation of the content creators that are also taking a break from Elite.

If you're not happy with ED right now, there's no problem in looking for options because you deserve to play something that makes you happy, that you'll enjoy, that will entertain you and make you smile, that allows you and you friends to have a good time. If you're happy with it, it's also ok! Continue being respectful and civilized regarding different opinions. Either way, you do not owe loyalty to Frontier Development, Elite Dangerous or anything else but to your own well being.

When am i coming back? I'll not be worrying about that, maybe Fdev should be. It's ok to commit mistakes as far as you make it up to them later and you did not intend to make them since the beginning.

Did you have a spare half hour for some ramblings?
You didn't actually get to any meanful point, at least for me.

Grind is what you make it my dude. I've been having a riot messing with various factions dirt side.

if your happy elsewhere more power to ya. Still for someone who didn't intend to rant you sure managed to rant.

I’m always dubious when a post starts with “I’m not going to rant, but…”. It’s not quite, but almost up there with “believe me,” and “I’m not a racist, but…”

was it a rant?

I understand all you kids playing consoles are mad, I would be disappointed too but I would have to understand there is order in which core of the game (PC) have to be fixed first and fully functional for them to release it on consoles.

LOL. I'm 50, I played the original Elite on a Sinclair Spectrum so you might want to rethink that. I'm also on PC for the current game so nothing to be mad about. I just thought your 'console users are second class citizens' argument was dumb as dumb can be, especially when you backed it up with a load of stuff about 90s gaming which has nothing at all to do with gaming today.

Yes, games are developed on PC as the main development platform, regardless of what platform they are sold on, but that wasn't what you said. You said 'Elite is a PC game' which is palpable nonsense for a game that has been sold on consoles for six sevenths of its life. Those players and the sales they gave FDev backl when they didn't have a stable of other successful games to rely on financially are likely a big part of the reason we have a game to talk about at all. The console market is huge these days.

i am 53 i had my BBC B and then a BBC Master micro computer .
I played Elite on my BBC and fell in love with it i still play on an emolator version of elite sometimes and we didnt have elite feet then.
now since we are now EDO i am actuly playing the game more now than ever i am enjoying the game its a lot of fun i am a premium backer so i am lucky i dont ever have to pay for addons so if it has bugs i dont actuly care that much as its Freeeee.
O7 commanders stay safe

So, after a "short speech" you basically agreed with me.

No, after pointing out that I'm not a kid of any kind, let alone one playing on a console, I further pointed out that your earlier comments about Elite being a 'pc game' because it was only on pc for the first year of its life were absolute codswallop, but you're clearly desperate to claim a win here and I don't care enough to waste my time arguing with you.

Teamwork is the core of DRG. Don't play alone, and learn how to fill your role. If that doesn't appeal to you, maybe it just isn't for you.

Also, shout a lot. Morale is key. For Karl!
Thanks! Well, teamwork I can do fine- Star Trek Bridge Crew I like, and that's far more interdependent. In DRG I just find the gunplay mediocre and the rock smacking dull, and that seems to cover most of the time I spend in it. It may just not be for me, not everything has to be!
