Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Ben played a very integral role prior to CIG as CR's number one superfan, archiving everything from old Wing Commander materials to meeting with CR back in the Digital Anvil days. In one of the episodes of Sunk Cost Galaxy (I'll look for the exact segment later because I need to watch that entire series agian), it was shown that Ben was the one who struck upon the idea selling specialized ships to raise revenue, because that's what the backers really liked. It was a brilliant move, and so he joined the team very early.

Edit: Found it.

If the timestamp doesn't work, fast forward to 29min 7 sec.

That was pure genius as a revenue scheme!

Ensure people want to buy not just 1 ship but multiple, each designed for certain roles, and willing to spend hundreds or even thousands to get those ships, even before they are flyable. Fuelled by FOMO and limited time sales and LTI it got people shelling out for things they didn't actually need... it just created want.

Anyway, look forward to seeing you all in the 'verse while i fly my news van around recording battles and transmitting it to other commandos sitting on board their luxury cruise liners sipping hand crafted cocktails created by players serving the drinks!

I wonder if he's still such a big fan after getting the boot. Evidently his ideas were big earners - just not for him.

I think you're missing out on an in-game revenue stream. Imagine a news van that overtly records battles for the hoi polloi in the 'verse, while simultaneously recording incriminating footage and selling it on the sly to data runners?

Hold on. Adding a bunch of Reliant Makos to my fleet.

Technically speaking, he is still employed. He's the editor of jump point magazine.

Not sure how many people actually read that or how much effort it actually takes him or what sort of salary it provides.

However, i'll be forever grateful to the person who allowed the transcript of CR's meeting regarding the sandworms to be published.

It gave us the classic lines:

"How many missiles should the worm carry"

and CR's fabulous

"WORM WAS NOT A JOKE!"

Just in case you didn't know who he was... as for all the other crazies and mentally unstable trolls who keep attacking journalists or random folk outside Walmart when seen wearing an Elite Dangerous T-shirt...I keep wondering, who are those people...why don't I ever meet them online...why don't I get death threats...why does nobody I've ever played Star Citizen alongside know any of these people?

The instances of these apparently random and anonymous internet crazies being paraded either on reddit or here whilst all being perfectly plausible, seems to be completely at odds with not only my experience but that of many, many others...YMMV of course...there are players of games and there are internet crazies who do nothing but rattle keyboards on t'interweb 🤷‍♂️

Beware! I might be a t'internet crazy!

Not going to happen… unless the SC community somehow develops a “don’t shoot the news van” honor code. That or the van got pretty good stealth technology… and somehow is able to use its equipment while in stealth 🥷

Never say never...as it goes. Joined an Org after nearly 6 years of avoiding them. It came about after @Intrepid3D heard one of the members mention my name on the org Discord channel... strange as that may be. After popping on to the discord channel as a guest last night, it seems I knew quite a few of the folks in there already from in game or from the testing chat on Spectrum so they sent me an invite. Cracking bunch of blokes...all quite mad too :D

I don’t mean to be offensive but… looks like they brainwashed you 😅
Fight Mole… fight. Don’t let them take you alive 🤣

Its a small world, glad to have you. :)

Sounds like you have fallen on your feet there Mole! Definitely some cat DNA in there somewhere 😉😘
Aye, like Intrepid says...it's a small world. I've known some of the org members for a few years playing SC, even with me being a mostly solitary player just joining in when some of us just happened to be on the same server, it was an easy decision to accept the invite. Star Citizen is a much better experience when joining up with some mates :)

I stupidly mentioned I hadn't been to Klescher prison yet...not even when it was in testing. I can see me spending a fair bit of time there in the near future having now mentioned it...I'll just buy some merits from Sovapid I guess :D

Are orgs essentially clans then?

I'm still pottering about solo, i think i've done most basic gameplay loops now (or at least tried to). Might have to do hard credit earning, as still on 150,000cr and it's like 1.4 to 1.8mil for a Cutlass or Freelancer, which i think looks like ships to aim for.
Any suggestions for efficient things to do for credits?

Do like the way the company shares design philosophy, quite refreshing community engagement: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...-3-14-patch-watch-ships-and-thrusters-tuning/

So... I'm seriously considering jumping to Star Citizen. I'm not sure I should, or even that I really WANT to. I mean, I love Elite, I grew up with it, and I don't know if Star Citizen will actually provide me with the experience I'm looking for, things Elite already does.

What has my attention at Star Citizen are the incredible ship interiors as well as the amazing planet surfaces that include extensive plant life and even weather conditions. It LOOKS fantastic, but what is there to DO in the game?

I expect I can do cargo hauling, something I enjoy in Elite.
I can do mining, though the mechanism is different, something else I enjoy in Elite.
I don't know what kind of exploration there is in Star Citizen, but it's the thing I do most in Elite.
I know I can do combat... which honestly looks more engaging than it does in Elite, which suffers from the presence of Engineered weapons with a variety of magic effects that serve to unbalance things. But then, I don't generally do much combat.

Truthfully, the reason I play Elite is to relax. I'm not playing for pulse pounding action, I play to haul cargo, quietly mine asteroids or methodically explore systems and worlds.

Of particular note is that I can opt out of PvP in Elite by playing in solo mode. I've no interest in PvP, but I don't know if Star Citizen allows me to opt out.

If Star Citizen can't offer me these things... I may be better off staying with Elite.

You see, Elite really hasn't changed. Odyssey is disappointing, but I can still do all the things I spent three years in the black doing. I can still run cargo, quietly mine and survey star systems. None of that has changed.

So, I'm no worse off staying with Elite. The question is whether I'd be better off with Star Citizen.

I just don't know.
