State of the Game

I've been pretty lucky with my in-laws. And by "pretty lucky" I mean undeservedly blessed.

My wife's parents, may G-d rest their souls, adopted me like a second son to the point where I felt, without reservation, that I had two sets of parents.

Not sure why, though, knowing myself. that was another undeserved blessing :)

Parents generally like people who make their kids happy.

Which is why I always dressed as Ronald McDonald to meet them.

It's raining. So much water today. I love it.
I know that feeling.

Although I have to admit I find it strange. It's still raining here and has been on and off since, well, since the freeze lifted back in February. Normally, and by "normally" I mean about 10 years ago or so, it would have been clear skies, not a drop and temps above 80 since April with no hope of moisture until September.

Definitely not complaining, though!

i remember first getting the huge cannon. that's how cool it was to play for hours and hours and finally be able to afford it and equip it on a ship (which you finally were also able to afford) ... only to realize that the shield meta had already basically made them pointless, as does the entirely unrealistic maneuverability of ships. The sound of it going off was just too cool though.

I got to that point before the shield meta became a thing and had tons of fun finally being able to dish out massive damage (when I could maneuver into a position to deliver it, which wasn't all that easy back then), and then I took a break. When I got back, the engi-meta was a thing and the magic of bullet sponging as a poor substitute for challenging AI had been introduced.

But I do remember the early days of having to work for a kill, how everything hinged on one good/horrible maneuver and how entering combat, even against NPCs, made my pulse speed up.

Good times.

From what I hear, but I was on a break at that point, it (the spongification and dummification of NPCs) was largely due to a bunch of n00bz crying about how NPCs could kill them, but I could very well be wrong. I just know that circling around an NPC that I KNOW that I can't lose to no matter what I do for 10 minutes is NOT 10 times as challenging as fighting one for 1 minute that I know can mess up my day seriously if I make just one or two mistakes.

With the way they went through #2's ("Who are you?" - "Im' the new #2") I don't think anyone could have noticed!
Apart from the 1st and last episode, I don't think the order really matters.
Hmm, missus away for the weekend, may have to sit back and enjoy these again - I've got them on Blu-Ray somewhere (I'm old fashioned like that, and prefer physical media).
Bought a new amp as well, so may have to try out some vinyl with it, as good an excuse as any

Speaking of water, here's a backyard cat after all of the rain we've been getting for the last who knows how many months:

Everything is accurate, except for the grass. That drowned months ago. Now it's a rice field.
