Gotta say, I started a fresh commander recently (in horizons) and the intro into the game is waaaaay better than it used to be, it was almost non existent, but now its good.
As for Odyssey, for an existing commander, the tutorial mission was pretty good too, immersive and fun (I did have a bug at the end, but still).

Both did what they set out to do, quite well.

I've been extremely critical of FD and the Odyssey launch, and in general its content.

But, to the OP, I am sorry OP, but it seems like you just either didn't try, didn't want to have to try, or don't like anything that requires some investigation and exploration of game mechanics. The tutorial gives you plenty of information (it does need to explain switching tool mode more clearly, and possibly repeat it a couple times to make it click, but other than that it's not too bad)

And if that was how all games were designed, I'd have a lot less fun with games as for me, part of the fun is learning the way things work and finding interesting elements.

If that isn't for you then OK, but I really hope games don't all get made in the way you prefer em, cos I'd probably not get much out of them.

In my experience both sides have entrenched.

There's the "this is a buggy mess and I'll never play it (but still post in here about how much fun I'm having in No Man's Citizen)" crowd right the way through to the "Odyssey is the best game ever made and I know because I've tested it with a team of Russian ex-Soviet scientists" camp.

You'll find that some people have just resorted to making fun of both sides.

Tbh mate, it was a lame effort to make a complaint - I wouldn't mock something if the guy had tried, and perhaps he has, but it doesn't come across that way. You're entitled to your opinion though and I understand your point of view - I'd add that a lot of forumites have gone past the point of angry to just making jokes, even if bad ones. It just is what it is mate.

Would you get into the cockpit of a plane on microsoft flight sim and expect to be able to fly it without a bit of research? Games are more complex now than space invaders, and you need to do research to know how to play them.
