State of the Game

Well, I'm not particularly risk-averse (I've flown with you, after all!) and have never really understood why 'war' of any kind happens only in chosen spots...
Anyway, think about all the stuphz to be hazzed if the bubble started burning and the non-combat players rage-quitz...

But, according to @Darth Ender, we're all already within the void anyway.

Nobody cares about his opinion though.

Oh I'm not averse to any of that, especially the stuphz side of it! I was just worried that you were veering off course towards the side of boring and moaning about everything - but you have settled that concern ;)

Almost right...

  • They introduce Odyssey in a poor state with repeating patterns visible on some planetary bodies
  • Many explorer types are offended and leave
  • Combat players don't give a Rat's arze about patterns so stay
  • More players with potato PCs leave because performance is so bad
Then, when all of the risk-averse and ancient PC owners have gone to play NMS or SC...
  • Frontier release the 'proper' version of Odyssey that performs as well as Horizons
  • All CZs and AXCZs disappear overnight
  • Anarchy systems become dangerous to fly through
  • Wars happen in-system
  • Thargoids, in supercruise, spotted, interdicting players as soon as they enter the system.
  • Thargoid Hive ships appear all over the bubble.
Everyone has fun as the game evolves into what it should have been from Day 1! Playerbase grows massively as everyone is enjoying proper challenge.
I would play at 10fps to see such a game, devoid of pity, remorse, a game that does not stop spanking the players cheeks even when they are G5 sore.

The Gnosis event is pretty much the litmus- the only time things went sideways. I still marvel at people actually living in fear even if it was for a few minutes that morning.

Which is what Elite from '84 was in essence - it didn't cut much slack for the player, want the best deals, gonna get pirates, or Thargoids!
I did eventually get elite rank, but it took me nearly 2 years (amazing for the era!) and a lot of tears!

This game is pretty safe once past beginner stage, and, other players aside, the biggest risk is in making a mistake of judgement - like playing in VR on the original Rift (not exactly high res) and mistaking a NHSS threat 10 for a threat 0.... - or forgetting that one is approaching a planet surface in FA-Off... (Yes, I've done both!)

that's the kind of hopefulness that hasn't been able to survive in the environment of opt-in thargoid conflict. Where have you been stashing it and aren't you afraid that exposing it to the game at this stage will just poison it and kill it off like all the rest?

Are you wearing rubbernuke's PP encounter suit?

Understanding is a three-edged sword — your side, their side, and the burgers...

In my other guise I'm one of Loren's Reapers... Remember Phisto? He recruited me 🥳

If I want an experience like that, I can just forego the game altogether and take in some more RL.

did Utopia ever really interact with Loren?

Utopia pretty much did it's own thing and rarely seemed involved in direct conflict with others ...so i dont really recognize the important people in other powers.

We had a couple big conflicts ...but there was less importance on any kind of communication at that point ...and more about sniping as hard as possible
