State of the Game

Pop over to Carcosa and say hello when you've had a peek at the crash site... Would ask you to sell your explo date a Wells Astrophysics there if you would be so generous.
But if you are not playing Odyssey - you won't be able to visit a surface installation to sell it off - if Horizons do not come and sell in Carcosa!
Im Odyssey - Im a Lepper, so been playing it since day 1 (just not in VR much, yet)
I'll pop in and say hello - when I eventually;y get there. My jump range is 41-45, so may take me a while :)

EDIT: First step of the journey just taken

Could we please get this thread back on topic?

But where are the cats?

I know, I just haven't bothered to do much to the ship, apart from engineer the engine to level 3 (I think).
I've been playing since alpha, but don't use into anything. I haven't even tried SLF yet :)
Oh come on, buy the double engineered FSD for an asp, and a guardian jump booster and you're set ! Add an experimental mod on the FSD for max profit, but not mandatory.
Don't engineer a crap one by yourself^^

12 jumps to my nearest one - cheers. Hopefully I'll have the right stuff to buy it :)
If you go for full on explo, just with D everything, the FSD as is and a max size booster, no engineering, you should get into the 60-65ly jump range.
My phantom push into 71+. The conda can do more (I think in the 80 something ?), but I'm not interested, it's a big ship to land, a whale in supercruise and need landing pad L.

My Asp does 70 with max engineering and my conda does I think 78 from memory, which isn't a fully optimised build. Can still reach well over 99% of the stars in the game with a Hauler with no engineering at all though so it's hardly essential. I like engineering though. Yeah I'm weird like that.

Yeah it's Engineered FSD V1.
Human broker. It's basically the best FSD you can have for this size (size 5). Which is convenient because the Krait Phantom uses a size 5 to, and it's arguably better than the asp (not by much, but still).
Just arrived - to purchase the FSD :

0/18 Datamined Wake exceptions
3/26 Tellerium
0/26 Electromechanical Arrays
3/28 Chemical Processors

Looks like I'm putting off the upgrade for now - will look out for these materials as I pootle along.
Oh well - no big loss - I didn't know about it 25 mins ago, so nothing to get upset about.

Thanks for the advice - at least I've learned something, and once I do my Colonia trip, will make an effort to get the above, and do a bit of engineering / Tec Brokering.

high jump range is about skipping exploration. anything over mid 30's is either over kill or just for traveling somewhere fast.
exploration requires hitting all the systems... so you rarely need more than mid 30's to get thru odd places like the rift

A new player praises the game, then salty old players comment on it. Frontier needs to pull a rabbit out of their hat to improve the sentiment.

What can be deduced is people want:
  1. Fix the framerate drops
  2. Less grindy suit and weapon engineering
  3. VR support
  4. Ship interiors (including for the Fleet Carrier)
  5. Make the exploration sampling mini-game fun
  6. No bullet sponge mechanics for FPS
  7. Improve lighting, interface, framerate
  8. A new ship, SRV
  9. Let players order drinks from the bartender
  10. Settlements must have more gameplay variety than running around to collect stuff and FPS.

Put all those things on the roadmap, prioritize it and you'll win back the majority of the fanbase.

Part of the reason for this can be coined the negative contrast effect. If someone is brand new, never played the game before, there is much that will be valued. But if you are an older player who has seen the game in a much better state, and experienced the loss of features/graphics/stability, its an entirely different experience.

The fact my asp only does 69.something is a source of great pain, why must you rub salt in my wounds?
