This afternoon I'm going to be rewinding to Christmas 1984.

My original one was chewed by my dog months after I got it. He'll struggle to chew this one as he's be dead for nearly 30 years, but I'll hang up some garlic and put a circle of salt round it just in case he plans any scooby-do style ghost dog shenanigans.

Nice.

There is something about old Lego sets with the lifting lid box. I can remember the pirate ship being like that with all the large pieces arranged like some box of chocolates.

These days its all numbered bags for people with low patience thresholds.

The old set boxes were fantastic, particularly the classic space.
For me it's the instructions that are the biggest change in modern sets. We have 'family' sets of lego technic that we pass round between me, my brother and my dad - as you would with jigsaw puzzles - so I've had a go at a few sets from different era's recently. The current land rover comes with a huge book and this digger has just a 27 page manual with 2 x builds and the stuff about not blinding your brother.

The galaxy explorer pamphlet is a cross between spot the difference and the "draw the owl" meme. :D
