State of the Game

Gosh, you lot must still be in the stone age! (you cannot be serious in thinking that a modern system works that way!)

I owned a nice little house and a few acres for 20 years, with 3 chamber septic tank... The first 'improvement' after getting a few other jobs done was to add a modern 'brush' digester system to tank 1 - which meant that tank 2 could then drain out into the local ditch as it was now clean enough to not cause environmental damage.

I'm speaking from experience, were you speaking from Google?
Funnily enough I've been looking into this stuff recently. Modern septic systems are small and compact. Every home should have one, so that people can deal with their own crap...

They are quite surprising, and very efficient provided the household stick to the rule of the only thing that hasn't been through them is the bog roll that goes into the system. ;)

Just do what I do - come in, irreverently stink the place up for a few posts, then sod off again :p

Back in my KFC days I had this happen to me a few times due to the manager buying cheap bin bags.

Hated that guy so much.
