🍁 Planet Zoo: North America Animal Pack, coming 4 October 🍁

The Arctic fox is a curveball, and not what I would have chosen personally, but I thinks it's a good pick nontheless.
What I am unhappy about is the pick of the Bullfrog. No wood frog, salamander, or grasshopper mouse? Or Rubber boa? Instead they pick one of the most invasive species that exists West of the Rockies that is pushing several species into vulnerable and endangered territory?

Another thing that I like about this pack (I can't stop finding good things, that's great) is that despite being a North America pack, it has animals commonly found in South America, Europe and Asia. It has animals that can be found in tropical settings, but also in tundra environments. And in plains and mountains. On the coast and deep in the forest! This must be the most flexible pack we've ever had! It has something for almost every kind of player.

Amazing... so you guys really think the exclusion of birds might not be hinting to... well... a bird pack with improved mechanics?
I mean, I get that some people miss some animals in this pack, but really, complaining about the lack of birds when litterally everything screams "they'll come down the line and they will fly" startles me.
Yes. I mean the only avians we have gotten in dlc have been 2 penguin species and 1 ratite. I think we will definitely be seeing something later on

Either that, or we won't have them at all. But either way, right now mechanics apparently don't exist in the game to allow for flying birds. So while I understand the desire to have them in there, for some to express outrage or surprise when they don't make it into a pack is a little baffling to me. I agree, I think we'll see them later on in the game, and when we do I absolutely think it'll be a dedicated pack theme rather than a bird thrown in with terrestrial animals. It would make no sense to work on those mechanics without introducing a slew of animals that use them.

But you could also say that about cats, which currently have even 1 more than dogs, yet you are not mad that they added cougar? How is it more or less inovative then the arctic fox?

It better to just accept the packs can never please everyone, there will always be someone who would rather the fox was a wolverine but if they added a wolverine instead, there would be someone wanting an arctic fox.
The fox itself doesn't bother me, what bothers me the repetition of similar or expendable species (in this case, the expendable is the arctic wolf).

Let's see - we have 3 dogs that can be placed in similar enclosures, the 3 are found in North America and the 3 are found in the taiga biome.

Sounds to me like the fox came in response, as it was the animal most wanted for the arctic pack.

About the cougar, although it is an animal that I like a lot (a lot due to its geographical distribution), even though it is the nicest animal in the pack (in my opinion), I wouldn't mind receiving a bird in its place.

The pack in general pleased me a lot, we have rodents, plus a deer, plus a crocodilian, a sea lion.

But we have to expose what bothers us. I take it as a constructive criticism, not an empty complaint. Many players want to see more diversity in the game.

Sea Lions alone make this my favorite pack. And that alligator looks so damn good.

Definitely wasn't expecting the arctic fox, would have preferred a wolverine but it's a welcome addition.

I love the moose too 😗

The exhibit animal is kinda meh for me. An Eastern hellbender, thorny devil, axolotl or snapping turtle would all have been better choices imo, but the pack still gets a 9/10 from me 😀

Im personally so happy we got the cougar it isn’t a “big cat” it’s the largest small cat (felid) and it can’t roar (it shrieks like an old lady) and is super super versatile. As a Floridian I’m happy I got a gator and a cougar so I can create more typical Floridian zoos that always have gators and a Florida panther conservation focus. For me personally my cat roster in game only needs a lynx and a Caracal and I’m good!

I am thinking of returning to my Blijdorp Zoo recreation as finally some of my missing species are making their entrance. 🙂

That raccoon though 😶 still missing.

I did expect one rodent to show up in this pack but to get two is a welcome surprise! I am so happy the biggest group of mammals is finally showing up to the party!

One question: Can we expect scenery for the new animals? We got that with the last Animal Pack
I hope so, I need me some sea lion statues and a moose head lol

I hope so as well. And even if we don't get new building pieces, hopefully some of the blueprints from the trailer will show up as well? But statues and signs, yes please.

I am only on mobile so please excuse the poor quality but this could be a scenery item for the beaver or the prairie dog. It's a screenshot from the trailer

And at long last, the alligator sign from vanilla gets its counterpart (now we are only missing deer and a black rhino) :censored:

I'm gonna try to make a seal/sea lion habitat if they tolerate each other. Not as authentic as it could be if the seals were harbor seals (which do live in the Pacific coast of NA and mingle with California sea lions), but a good enough educative display of the differences between the major pinniped groups.

Also, funny how we went this long without rodents, just to get 2 at the same time! And great to be getting foxes, even if, thus far, the only pack to not include a canid has been the SA one.
