Elite Dangerous Community Schedule W/C 27 September 2021

I honestly don't want to see them get hauled over the coals for what they did but it would be even worse if they tried to defend what they did with the UI! I'll watch it with an open mind but dear goodness it was bad.
That's true, I mean it is just a game. I can think of times in my own work where I've been in a position of trying to explain someone else's work and I couldn't do it though. Sometimes it's best coming from the source.

Anyway, this will be the best opportunity anyone has had to give some constructive feedback, so hopefully we can give them something they can work with.

Yup.. just hope everyone sticks to the constructive part so we can have a proper discussion and also so that genuine issues don't get drowned out and ignored or censured.

How do you figure? They already had a "UI feedback request" post that went direct to the Devs and 3/4 of the good feedback was ignored.
This will be a 'so, what we did was changed the font, increased the DPI, and threw a bunch of pseudo-related imagery half-hazardly onto side panels with zero consistency in regards to obeying HUD colour parameters in that one .ini file or bottom scrolling wrap among all the several unrelated in any way UI panels. BUT now it will work equally as bad for all languages, possible interface devices (touch, mouse/keyboard, controller, HOTAS, VR) and platforms!' Like we don't know this already.

Even better will be the "oh, that's a good idea, I wish someone had mentioned that months ago" that'll be sure to come up and yet it's all there in their feedback post I'm sure...

What this will be is the best opportunity anyone has had to flame them for not listening to the previous feedback already given.

Yeah I don't see anything good coming from this... but will try and watch with an open mind without screaming "WHAT IN HEAVEN'S NAME WERE YOU THINKING" every two minutes

I think frontier is doing as well as they can for the circumstances that are going on in the world. :) I personally can’t give a full opinion on rhe UI, it seems half and half - bad and good but I’m console scrub lord. Thanks frontier for your hard work.

On the update stream, is it possible to do a ground conflict zone? I want to see if it runs smooth for you, there, at FDev. If that happened, that would show evidence why you'd release updates in the state they're in. Looking forward to it.

I'm looking forward to the UI stream. I think the current UI is, on the whole, a massive improvement over what we had in Horizons. I tend to bounce between Horizons and Odyssey depending on what I'm doing (VR mostly EDH, foot stuff obviously EDO) and the new Station Services and Galaxy Map UIs are better in almost every way.

It's also the first stream featuring folks from the dev side we've had for a while, and assuming this goes well I hope it means we can look forward to more in the future on other topics.

Anyone using this as a means of venting at UI developers for a video game because they don't like change really need to check themselves.

My prediction? Any constructive feedback is going to be drowned in a tidal wave of "put the UI back to exactly the way it used to be".

So, spare a thought for the devs who are going to go onto a stream to be told that the players want all the work they put in to be reversed. I'm sure that's gonna make them feel great/want to talk to us again.

Yeah I don't see this as a great idea.. there have been some improvements but only after a massive outcry over the howlers that went through unnoticed, I was a massive critic of it and still dislike some aspects (some aren't even fixed yet, like the fact that armour doesn't display what ship it's for if you buy it for storage)

Pushing these poor folks out to face criticism won't be a good thing. And like you said, after the initial outpouring it probably means that anything genuine won't get llstened to as it will just be ssen as doom mongering.

Will listen to it and see what's said though.

I'll say it now, without knowing what is going to be said on Thursday, I suspect a number of opinionated PC users will throw all sorts of grief at the stream, de-railing any positives messages that Frontier want to relay.

Better off, a pre-caned video so that the whole message can be conveyed and the constraints / compromises / design decisions can be put into the wider context.

Good luck...
There's a lot I don't like about the new UI, but I won't be throwing any grief. I'm actually interested in hearing their thought process. The fact they are even daring to come on and share that process is something I'm happy about and have no intention to dissuade by being hostile. If there is a feedback thread created later on, I'll use that to share what I don't like about the new UI in a constructive manner.
