Oh and salvage was delayed to 3.18 (Q2 2022)
Lolllll. Amazing.
Who knew that when they said 2017 they meant 2022

Oh and salvage was delayed to 3.18 (Q2 2022)
I mean it was forseeable, they cant miss their yearly tradition. But atleast they claim it'll come with the salvage ship and actual ship based salvage now, so who knows.Lolllll. Amazing.
Who knew that when they said 2017 they meant 2022![]()
coming 3.16.
will be the whole hull stripping with the Vulture now
Finally! Passenger missions coming in 3.17.
Ooh that's interesting - is there any info about how they plan to do that? it would be pretty cool to see the NPCs walking onto the ship - then do they get cabins, or will they wander around the ship, playing the chess-set etc. This is something I was really hoping we would get more of in ED with Odyssey - but fdev completely ignored pax ..."NPCs will request transport between rest stops in this mission type, with the rewards determined by the speed, safety and comfort in which the player delivers the NPC to their destination. This card has been added to the Alpha 3.17 release window." Finally! Passenger missions coming in 3.17.
ED is dull by design though. It's why it's viewing numbers will never go up unless they are paying famous streamers. It's on level of niche games like kerbal and space engeniers, the hundreds while SC in the thousands. That's how far ahead they are in terms of being "fun", to play and to watch.
In ED there is next to no agency or pvp conflict. Besides it has to cater for solo mode while in SC at least let's your always online and always at the risk of being attacked. A smaller but hand craft universe will always feel more alive and interesting to watch than a copypasted one.
There's more options for shenanigans too, mostly due to ship interiors. Like stowaway, steal ships, ransoms etc. The beauty of focusing on the player experience from the get go instead of trying to shoehorn mechanics later. They don't have to deal with that ambiguity of designing for solo/open and obfuscate it with mindless grind. They just follow their vision and keep on adding stuff whether dads or sons like it or not. They're adding full looting to an already open universe PVP server along with medical and rescue stuff. Sure it's scary to loose everything but that's the beauty of it, everyone is on it either they like or not. There's no hiding behind solo.
But hey we're getting FC interiors, another srv variant (only took 6 years) and have emotes now... Weeewooo very exciting times ahead.
Following this path the only way that Frontier will ever see Odyssey steam reviews reach a positive state is if they write Assassins Creed along with it.
Oh and they are adding or have added a bombing ship, haven't seen it yet so probably next update.
They get what? A couple of new vehicles to play every 3 months while Frontier takes years for one when they don't even have to worry with making interiors and damages and stuff...
There's just so many variety of ships and vehicles that put ED to shame. After all Elite was supposed to be a spaceship game first and not a COD pew pew later. Another dropped ball by Odyssey.
No wonder Elite Refugees keep jumping over.
Look, atleast its on the roadmap. Let me be excited for something among the yearly letdown of salvage. Sigh...2 patches away? LOL, you really are new to CIG's development cycle aren't you?

As previously announced on the September 8th Roadmap Roundup, the Core Gameplay Pillar have shifted their focus to deliver features initially for Squadron 42, before then moving to integrate into the Persistent Universe. This has a two-fold benefit: Squadron 42 will benefit greatly from the additional resources and dedicated focus, and the Persistent Universe will see features come online in a more complete and polished state.
I was trying to think what the new SC fatsuit reminded me of, apart from a fatsuit.Perhaps its time FD paid homage to SC in some way.
Perhaps when/if they get life on planets there can be a Crobear!

Of note is that it's labelled "Tier 0", and very recently CIG said they'd be stopping releasing tech/features as Tier 0, preferring to iterate to Tier 1 or 2 before releasing.Look, atleast its on the roadmap. Let me be excited for something among the yearly letdown of salvage. Sigh...
Ha ha.No wonder Elite Refugees keep jumping over.
You're right, SC spends their time on new shiny things safe in the knowledge whales will buy them, allowing them to keep making more without ever releasing a game. Meanwhile Frontier make, what, another 2 or 3 games, and release them? Amateurs! They get what? A couple of new vehicles to play every 3 months while Frontier takes years for one when they don't even have to worry with making interiors and damages and stuff...
I'm not sure what this even really means, but it seems a little ironic considering you're comparing it to Star Citizen. After all Elite was supposed to be a spaceship game first and not a COD pew pew later.
Meanwhile, the "niche" games like Elite Dangerous, Kerbal Space Program, and Space Engineers, have concurrent player numbers in the tens of thousands, while SC in only the thousands. That's how far ahead they are in terms of being "fun", to play.ED is dull by design though. It's why it's viewing numbers will never go up unless they are paying famous streamers. One wonders if when Q2 2022 arrives they'll repeat the same message and delay Salvage further until it's Tier 1 or 2.
No wonder Elite Refugees keep jumping over.
Ha ha.
