This brought to my mind Alastair Reynolds short story Six directions of space.
And that led to thinking about dinosaurs, if they were on path of developing sentience and tool using civilisation.
Would they have been thechnologically on par with what we are now at around this time (give or take a few thousand years), or millions of years ahead of contemporary humanity, or maybe never get to even 'ape level' for there being no need /evolutionary drive towards that?

Our belt went on the tumble last year. It was a massive nightmare to change the thing involving dismantling the whole thing and removing the drum - the condensing sensor doesn't work anymore so it dumps all the water on the floor without warning, on the plus side I've got loads of spare screws and stuff.
