To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

This Open, Private, Solo debate has been ongoing for years.

How come mods don't reference to old threads or compile it all to one megathread?

After 6 years, is anything new or useful actually being added to the discussion?
Or are these threads just a therapy room for passive-aggressive anger management?
Its way less anger management than posturing.

People gotta pretend to be badasses on the internet.

"Back in my day I played through 37 PvPs up hill both ways to school. It turned me into the adonis of a man I am today"

Proposal:

High sec makes your all knowing pilots federation CoVaS not fire on player ships at all, rams do magically no damage.
Tech is already there (no route plotting to locked systems etc.)

Med sec and low sec reduce damage by 75 and 25 percent, respectively. Gets 25 and 50% trade bonus.

Anarchy has no protection, as has 'empty' space. Anarchy gets 100% trade bonus.*

You can chose to revoke your Pilots Federation license, this is a once forever decision.
Doing so removes your ability to dock in high sec, and disallows you from docking at Jameson / Shin Dez, or taking part in community goals.
All above fire restrictions are revoked, but your PF insurance is also revoked.
This would still allow ganking even in high sec, albeit at a much higher risk.

Bounties on players are unlimited, not capped at 2 million.
Notorious CMDRs and CMDRs who revoked their PF license can't cash them in.

Block is removed to com only.

Admittedly it'sa bit light on the "what do the gankers get" but this would be a solution not hurting
my suspension of disbelief and it would propably remove ganking by a significant amount.

*in open would be optimal to stop people cheesing this system, alternatively make pirate lords roam Anarchy systems, attacking
traders (Anarchy should be dangerous like in the old games) all the time.

Thoughts?

You'll get used eventually :)

How do you do it, Northpin? 😜

How do you endure the countless threads of same topic over and over and over again?
Does your consciousness not scream in agony, grasping at what sanity you may have left?
What drives you to reply to this never-ending, forever-spinning carousel of reverberating repetition?

Seriously, there are some ideas which are so bad, and so misguided (not that I'm saying this topic is one), that they NEED shooting down every time they appear.

Honestly can't think of any at the moment but, for some of them, you might as well just have a text document on your desktop which you can cut/paste all the required responses for, every time they appear.

I'd like to think that people are learning stuff every time more sensible subjects come up.
After all, you'd have to be pretty arrogant to assume your POV was 100% correct and any opposing POV was 100% wrong.
It's always possible to learn something new about an alternative POV, if you bother to make the effort.

Yep. Covas does many things like this already. PF magic.

What I really dislike about the current game is there is no distinction in system security AT ALL.
I'd really like high sec / anarchy as the PvE / PvP mode.
Not sure how Covas is supposed to change the rules of physics (rams), but I guess that would be way too much work for the developers only to make my wingfighter account unable to revoke the PF licence (because of the hundreds of inevitable rebuys) while my ganker account (that would never face the rebuy screen) could continue to put out full damage everywhere in peace :)

Sometimes it's funny, some time's interesting.
Even bazmeson atempts tend to be funny :)

I don't do much, if any pvp and i play open only. 3000+hrs so far and i love that it is in the game even if i don't do much of it. The only thing I'd really like to change is when you get pulled multiple times "by the same wing" you never get closer to the station.
But the NPC's in the game are crap so i like the challenge of delivering 792T's in an un shielded cutter at a CG and laughing my ass off all the way. Just me????

Honestly? This shouldn't change. I'm mostly a solo player, and I appreciate Open for what it is, but very much don't want to deal with it most of the time. Elite Dangerous' "optional PvP" mode is to either play solo or play private, and that's fine.

Would I play in Open if I could disable PvP? Absolutely, I think it'd be fun to run into people randomly, and even get a chance to roleplay in this game. But Open is what it is, and needs to be what it is in order to facilitate gameplay loops like piracy or bounty hunting. Sadly, that means it's also going to facilitate gankers, and that's why I'm not interested in it. I like flying spaceships without being subjected to somebody else's "git gud" nonsense.

The only things I think should really change are C&P, specifically for murdering players, should be heftier. And being caught in an interdiction from a player should have a fighting chance of being evaded, rather than biasing so hard towards the interdictor.

LOL I don't really think so. Open already has a population of predominantly PvE players who are perfectly capable of not getting blown up by every other random wannabe ganker because first, it's extremely easy by design and second, they actually know what they are doing. Even if they do get shot down somehow occasionally, they just shrug and go their merry way after a mutual 'gg', and probably the next time they will be even better as they simply have a normal mindset for a multiplayer game.

And ofc there are other PvE players who absolutely don't know what they are doing. These players are usually way more toxic than all the gankers in the world combined (and I know a lot of gankers, even very good ones, not only that one random dude an average PvEer gets ganked by once in half a decade). I could insert a wallpaper here full of salty local and system messages sent by these people only because someone dared to interdict their precious pixels in Open, but I guess the forum rules would not allow it because of the swear words. Honestly, these people are simply not compatible with a multiplayer game of any kind.

Let me tell you a story of some emergent gameplay instead, one that happened to me a couple of weeks ago (which wouldn't have possibly happened in a PvE-only mode btw). I was flying around in Barnard's Star in my shieldless taxi Viper4 and I caught sight of a CMDR flying a Phantom with some multicannons and a seeker missile rack on it. He even happened to be a power play enemy, so he seemed to be the perfect target (no notoriety) to find out how my shieldless ship will work against missiles without silent running.

I was about to interdict the Phantom when another CMDR's Anaconda suddenly interdicted me. I could see a familiar squadron tag on it (a predominantly BGS and Power Play oriented group, mostly PvE players with a handful of lawful PvPers whom I had already known for some time because I helped them in Power Play PvP battles a couple of times, I even knew a few CMDR names from their discord), but I had never met that particular CMDR before so I just evaded the interdiction but dropped on his wake afterwards to see what he wanted. The Conda was still in there.

"Hey" I said.
"Hey" he replied. "Did I interdict you? This was the first time I've interdicted someone. I've always wanted to try but our squadron have a 'no gank' rule."
"Well, technically speaking, I evaded your interdiction, but you still saved that Phantom, well played, congrats."
"I know your name from our discord, and I know you're a ganker, will you attack me?"
"Should I? I'm more of a wingfighter and generally I don't tend to gank the members of your squadron anyway. Besides, it was you who attacked me, LOL."
"Just need to say I'm 9 years old."
"Nice. I'm more than 50, sadly."
"Can I 1v1 you?"
"Sure, why not. Dw, I'm gonna stop at shield drop."

He's a smart little gentleman. I helped him a little bit with engineering and the other day he came with me to shoot down a couple of Interceptors. Obviously he's still a noob since he's a relatively new player along with his father, they even got ganked once or twice but that absolutely never stopped them to fly in Open nearly 100% of the time according to my FL. They definitely wouldn't leave Open for a PvE-only mode.

Well, not everybody can handle the horror of Open like a 9-year-old I guess. 🤣

This.
Cool story.
I play Open all the time by the way and I've only been killed once in the last 7 years.

No, have you heard about 5C? That doesn't even require to have weapons... look, I don't like pineapple pizza (as I am Italan and for me it's rubbish) but I am not posting on Hawaiian kitchen forums saying that pineapple pizza is rubbish.

Think about that.
OK, I thought about that and I must tell you that you are mistaken. Pizza Hawaii isn't a Hawaiian Pizza, it was invented by some Canadian dude and I wouldn't be surprised if he copied the 'recipe' from that German dude who invented the Toast Hawaii.
I do like a good Italian Pizza though, unless it's Pizza Wurstel which is just as disgusting as Pizza Hawaii.

That's not what they are interested in though, otherwise they wouldn't argue against anything that might remove potential targets from them...
Aha, there it is, all objectors are gankers. Now I don't have to pay attention to anything you write. Ganking is rare outside CGs, PvE is possible uninterrupted in almost all cases. Purists who want zero chance of PvP have closed modes. But some are never satisfied.
