Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I have a sneaking suspicion that, much like traditional journalism and the interests that puppet string their content, at the heart (of the money) of game review sites, we'd find links to "Big Pub"... I suspect they're staying away from this "scam" because any look beyond the surface will reveal that it is, indeed, NOT a scam. And that would mean that "Big Pub" has ACTUAL COMPETITION from essentially an "indie studio" - but an indie studio swinging a $400 million around like it's nothing.

Make no mistake: the recipe that has made SC possible scares the living poo poo out of "big pub". Radio silence trumps "any press is good press" - so no press it is!

That's why you aren't hearing about Star Citizen. It's too successful and that makes it too scary to the establishment ...

This is your brain on Star Citizen.

Kotaku report on SC.

Before reading, just remember, if it praises SC/CIG its good journalism. If its critical then its a hit piece!

Welp, after reading it, I certainly wouldn't mark that incoherent drivel as journalism regardless of the subject matter...it would be a stretch to describe it as joined-up writing. I take it you find it interesting because it happens to mention your three favourite discussion topics on Star Citizen?

A) It's cost $400m
B) It's not out yet
C) It mentions Chris Roberts making any one of an extensive series of ill advised statements back in 2014 which have turned out with hindsight not to have been truthful...

:D

I wouldn't call it quality journalism either. I think it just nicely highlights how the media have nothing really to report about SC beyond how much money has been taken in.

Maybe one day SC will release, then the media will have something to really talk about.

Ok, one day SC might finally get a second system, but reporting positively on that will just be weird... like CIG should be praised for taking 10 years to get a second system into the game? I fully expect it to be "yeah, CIG finally added a second system. Just 108 more to go"

I think the article does a nice job at passing across the point and reminding us, in this momentous of occasions, that it has been around a decade without delivery and how much of joke this project is 🤷‍♂️

Do box missions, Deliveries, Each planet area has its own delivery company, you start at 8,000 aUEC per mission but if you get your reputation up you get 45,000 aUEC missions, so to begin with just stick to one planet and its moons, that way you will use all your time to get your reputation up with that one company.

Once you're earning 45,000 per mission you will soon get your savings up.

Everything you do has reputation, the more successful missions you complete the higher your reputation the higher you will earn, delivering boxes is a good way to get started, the Aurora is a little tight for 3 Boxes at a time but it works, deliveries is also a good way to get to see the planetary system you're in.

Once you earned enough money buy a better ship with your earnings, have a look for what ship you want so you have a target to aim for.
Ok thanks...will try that next time I get a chance. My guess is missions dont continue, if you drop from the game. Im asking because if a mission takes any longer than 10 minutes, then I may be needing to continue, after relogging.

Some of us don't need reminding every 5 minutes...especially since we're the ones who've been waiting for those 10 years ;)

Meh? Feel free to ignore it then 😋. But hopefully it is not just us reading it. I think CIG deserves to be finger pointed and laughed at by the press at any opportunity. If authorities or regulators don’t want to intervene then this is probably one of the only ways left for some semblance of accountability and consequences to be exerted.

It's a pee-take on Dr Manhattan's POV from Watchmen. Dr Manhattan is a quantum being that experiences his entire timeline simultaneously.

Like how SC is simultaneously released and alpha, playable and a test, developed for many years or just the last 2 years.

I mean, if you're going to go experimental and write an article in a fruity style, what better subject than SC? It's an ongoing joke anyway.

;)

It would help if the author didn't assume everyone knew the Watchmen reference simply because he thought it was vaguely amusing ;)

I've no beef with Star Citizen or Ci¬G hit pieces...but that wasn't one of them. Too vague, little to no real information at all besides the clickbait and almost childishly spineless.

It also gets really boring when it's assumed that everyone who's ever played or bought into Star Citizen is automatically supportive or defensive of Ci¬G's mismanagement of the project or predatory business practises by the management and marketing departments...

A) That couldn't be further from the truth...
B) It's certainly not my job...I just play the game :)

They did it to themselves. By chasing sensationalism for clicks I think most of us largely ignore most media these days.

However, someone taking the mickey out of CIG is still a good laugh for me :D
They had to, I guess. Decline of print and rise of online publishing sharply increased competition. Printer capacity and distribution to newspaper stores was no longer the limiting factor - anyone could publish on the internet. They kinda cannibalised themselves.
