Hardware & Technical WOW monitor to show of ED

Hi all,

looking at building a new rig for ED - and part of my spec will be a nice GTX 970 Nvidia card.

So I am looking at a monitor that will really use my GPU and show off ED

.

Overlord Tempest X270OC is looking good but pricey (not as pricey as G-sync model panels - I hear they hit 144hz )

What would you all recommend for a WOW looking screen for gaming and ED at launch???

If you can afford it, you might as well spring for a 4K display to go with that shiny GPU... :D

I don't have links, but people have been saying 'good things' on here about playing the game on one...

144 Hertz is better than 4K resolution, at this time. It can be hard to get 60 Fps ob 4K, but it is very easy to geht 144 Hz or more in 1080p. I Do with my GTX780.

How about a curvy 21:9 monitor? I can't remember model numbers off the top of my head, but they look very wow.

It's a silly idea for watching tv or movies with other people, but could be great for gaming

EDIT: oops, they are massively expensive !

If you wanted to stick with just one of those GTX 970's go with a "Benq BL3200PT " 2560 x1440 and 32" inches and not too expensive.
If you want Ultimate, go with (2) GTX 970's and a "Philips" BDM4065UC (soon to be released) . 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz and 40" of pure "WOW"
As far as I know nobody makes a BIG 144 Hz yet...

My two cents :)

Agreed, gaming all round on a 144hz monitor is great, I cannot go back to a 60hz monitor and have to deal with all that Vsync malarky to stop tearing (Which in turn messes with mouse accuracy) - Once you see Elite Dangerous on 144hz and then on 60hz well... You just cannot go back.

When I got my 144hz Monitor I did order the 780ti with it, but they arrived on different days.. The Monitor arrived first, and I plugged it inot the PC (which had a GTX 680 at the time) Saw the difference right away in windows (Mouse cursor is moving like the hardware cursor did on the Amiga way back when - Silky smooth). Then I put wolfenstien the New Order on and my jaw nearly hit the floor. I almost cancelled my 780ti as it made THAT much of a difference...

Agreeing with this. I have a BL3200PT and it is an epic monitor. It's particularly good for ED because it uses a VA panel which produces very deep, inky blacks and has about three times the contrast ratio of competing IPS or TN monitors. I'd say right now it's the best monitor on the market for showing off ED's gorgeous graphics.

I'm not a fan of 4K monitors at the moment. They need too much GPU power to get smooth frame rates at their native resolution and the affordable (ie, £500) ones use TN panels and have unimpressive image quality. Apparently Philips have a 40" 4K monitor with a VA panel launching soon, with should be amazing for anyone who can afford dual high-end graphics card to go with it.

Using a 37" Samsung TV myself. I'm over 40 and my eyes are shot anyway (from playing too much back in the CRT days). :D

Why not get a nice 21:9 monitor?

If you all had to choose, which would you rather have:

-21:9 monitor @60Hz
-16:10 monitor @144Hz

The 21:9 screenshots look amazing, but I've never seen this game on a 144Hz display.

be careful with high refresh monitors and tv's as some are really only 50 or 60hz but with some snazzy tech allows them to run to the equivalent of 100+ hz but under fast moving scenes they can fail completely and you can end up with pixelation or ghosting or both at the same time so make sure the monitor or tv you decide to buy is true to its refresh rate.

Agreed.

One you go 144 you can't go back to 60.
You just can not . . .

It just eliminate tearing as a whole, and you have fluent motions. Lovely.

Then again being able to pull off 4K at 144 hz would be amazeballz indeed ;)

Ok Changes are a foot... Might be upping to 980 GTX now

S000... 27 / 28 inch is what i want.. Now, new Q is 144mhz vs 4k monitor for Elite D??

Asus PB287Q 28" 4K 60Hz 1MS Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor is interesting me and a Asus rog swift is a no at its price

So if 144 still the better option, what is the best panel around 300-400 price?

If i had the cash I would go triple:

or

If your not in a hurry why not just wait a little and save up some more cash. The prices of these monitors are bound to go down some.

Apparently 28" is a bit small to get the full benefits of 4k, and it can make working on the desktop a little problematic. No idea what the best actual screen to get is though. Personally I'm hoping there'll be a price drop and a bit more choice on the market within the next few months. I also don't really want to get a monitor that doesn't have either Gsync or FreeSync, as they seem like true 'next gen', even though it's a development that should have happened years ago.
