Tis why i just play on the pve servers.
But still, its a big issue with ED, there is no reason for player interactions at all, there is no bonus to playing in open, no reason to interact with other players, its just....pointless.

AX combat is one of the exceptions where multiplayer in elite really shines.
I struggle to kill a Basilisk solo, but in open with two AX wings I can complete whole CZs including the endboss Hydra.
But this is - sadly - an exception of the norm.

Subjectivity is the key, e.g. NPCs are infinitely preferable to some players, IMO.

The modes are what let players with diametrically opposed play-styles play the same game in different ways, affecting the shared galaxy as they see fit.

Where do the PVPers have to compromise their builds for the role they want to play? Sure, they'll have no cargo and probably poor jump range but they're not compromising combat ability, whilst you're arguing traders or explorers should compromise their abilities.

Now I don't disagree that having to make some compromises is a bad thing, there's just no real downsides for the pewpewers.

When it comes to survival, compromises don't count. you'd rather be alive or carry 64 more biowaste choice is simple. If you don't have the instinct to survive in a dangerous environment you will pick more biowaste. Simple. This principle applies to all fields.

Remember that everyone sometimes has to get on a different ship, make money, collect materials, transport Tritium, or take a quick cab ride somewhere. You don't do that in a 15ly jump range FDL.

Problem: the environment is completely opt in and not dangerous the moment you unlocked the first engineer. This is why you see so many shieldless Cutters.

If this were "real" life (I hate real life comparisons, but bear with me this time), no one of us would fly in a shieldless Cutter, everyone would fly the biggest meanest bestest survivable ship, if our own rearside would be inside :LOL:

And didn't you get the memo? Every ganker grinds his stuff in solo in a 3D shielded Asp. Really.

Missing the point there.

You can't do those other things in the FDL but money's so easy it's mostly a non-issue, and you've probably done most of the engineering at that point anyway. You don't use your FDL for those if you do need more. There's nothing you have to do to compromise the FDL, yet you should compromise the trader? That's not good game design IMO.

There are many real life comparisons that can be made - however our avatars are immortal space pixies with infinite free ships available to them, so most, if not all, of those comparisons aren't that useful.

The point IS that the compromises should be necessary on ALL ships, not just traders. Why the apparent assumption that I'm saying traders should be fine flying unshielded? (although TBH it should be safe enough in high sec systems, if security meant anything high sec should be safe - yes, I know that in reality it's pretty irrelevant).

You can fly a shieldless trader in Open if you have the skills to avoid interdiction in the first place.

The "PvP ships aren't compromised" argument is silly when it's kinda in the name that they're PvP ships. They're obviously compromised at exploration and trading.

Likewise a trader is compromised at PvP because it is a trader.

Choose open or don't, but if you choose open and don't outfit or have the skills to back up your big brass balls shieldless T9 at a CG, don't whinge when you get easily popped by a railgun Adder.

It's not rocket science lads.

And for those who don't care about the BGS, they'll live happily ever after. And PP is just a matter of owning a FC. No long SCs, jump from A to B, donesky!

If this is the case then the block list will just become bigger.

BGS and PP are available for everyone, this includes other modes than open. Neither BGS (which is negatively affected by it) nor PP needs PvP to be successful in it.

The only mode that requires PvP is Close Quarter Combat and it is separate from the entire game.
