State of the Game

Sorry to ask this (in this most hallowed of threads) but how does Horizons differ from Oddy? Is Oddy not just Horizons + legs + bad performance and dodgy shaders? (I've really not been paying attention.)
EDO is Horizons with Feet and new planetary tech, despite the forum idiots trying to pass it off as a different game.
It has some novel FPS combat (quite unlike any of the FPS shooters I've played to date.) and other surface activities that present verying levels of challenge.
New planetary tech has both bland and interesting bodies to visit (just as Horizons did) but has given a makeover to snowballs to make them less bland to the eye.
Everything else is the same as Horizons (because EDO is an expansion, innit?)

Currently it has serious performance issues, allegedly it will get better...

That sums it up without either gushing or grumbling...

Because I just 'play a game' I have no pre-conceived notion exactly what should or should not be in said game, so every bit of new content is welcome - others get bitter and twisted because the game doesn't 'do' what they believe it should... Pity the fools...

Word!

odyssey is like an engine update to cobra. the overlaying system of elite is the same, but the engine has been updated (aside from the additional stuff of feet gameplay).

So odyssey is more than just slower code ...it's supposed to support HDR i believe ...which is the source of all of the lighting / color problems odyssey has had.. and other related engine changes is what has led to performance impacts in areas other than the new feet feature. (it's also likely what led to many regressions from fixes that had been made in horizon's version of the engine that were lost when the new code was merged in)

additionally, odyssey changes various menu/hud UI's in the game in various places. That ui change is more than just a change in content.

I really like the new UI, overall. It does take some getting used to but it has way more functionality now. I'm speaking mostly about the galaxy and system maps...

EDIT: Oh and yes, the vast majority of optimizations/balance passes that were put into Horizons over the last year or two before Odyssey launch are not, necessarily, included...

you'll also see many galaxy map related changes in odyssey. new filters, new data in those views. improvements to the route planner and changes to the colors of the markers for things.

if you lived in a land of make believe where third party websites didn't exist ..odyssey's improvements to the galaxy map would be fairly significant in going a long way toward giving the tools to the player within the game to allow them to find what they want in the sea of data of the BGS. Unfortunately most players dont live in that world and so it's mostly for naught as even with the improvements, they generally fall short of the ui and data of the third party websites.

also just to note, the galaxy map isn't impacted by the amd scaler settings in odyssey VR. That unintentionally allows you to see a quick side by side on quality impact to text readability with settings.. like "i guess it's not so bad" then you goto galaxy map and it becomes "holy crap ...that's what readable text should/can look like" .

The galaxy map is also a good way to see how low you can get your frame rate...without being in a settlement...

On a side note, who are you and what have you done with the real Ender...not that I'm complaining, merely concerned. I am enjoying your participation today...
