Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | Update 9 Notes

I'll start. Please STOP giving us new content and just FIX the broken stuff that matters for gameplay!

So we get new content - mostly worthless giving the size limitations "IMO". Really? No size 5? Why not available in all sizes?

  1. "Mining Multi Limpet Controller module (Available in Size 3), Operations Multi Limpet Controller module (Available in Size 3), Rescue Multi Limpet Controller module (Available in Size 3), Xeno Multi Limpet Controller module (Available in Size 3), Universal Multi Limpet Controller module (Available in Size 7)"

Instead of time being spent on these (Things that really matter):
  • I know this is a really nasty one but we need to really knuckle in to some deeper work with it: NPCs sometimes being inactive during Combat Zones.
  • Mission errors when taking multiples of the same type to their destination
  • Issues around "Raid Missions" not counting kills
Will leave it there for now. Hoping 9 does not break new things <---- cautious optimism.

OH, wonder how much cargo capacity the new SRV has? Not listed in patch notes. My guess 0, hope I am wrong.
Multifunction limpet controllers have been demanded by some portion of the player base ever since we had more than one limpet function so hardly that new and at least they are available to all.

No need to be rude... where in the patch notes does it state the fix to this issue?

All I read was a fix for stuck cargo canisters.
Unless this sentence alluded to it, it wasn't clear to me:
  • “Use a hatchbreaker limpet on any cargo bay. Cargo canisters will appear on the contacts list but there's no way to collect them”
But in the actual issue, nothing appears in the contact panel, the sub targets are blank, so you can't target anything with the limpet.

But anyway. As I said in my first post above ... here's hoping :)
I also failed to find it in the OP, i.e. the more recently introduced issue that you can't actually deploy any hatch breakers (in order to crack open the cargo bay to begin with) even though the sub-target is correctly selected. I hope they just forgot to add it to the notes.

You missed the point. And I did not mention the SRV, I mentioned the limpit controllers. Point was: they spent time on things OTHER than fixing broke stuff.
Are you seriously suggesting that Frontier either retrain all the graphic/animation/audio designers to be programmers?? Or would you prefer that Frontier leave them sitting on their thumbs or fire them. Different teams work on different things, it's not rocket science.

Wow thanks very much for the patch notes Sally! That's a really nice list of things, and some great commentary as always! And a huge thankyou to the team. Remember to take breaks and stay hydrated!

Yay
Boo. I'm with you on this, I love the Exploration music! I think these audio balance changes are going to take a while to get used to there's a lot there which could be quite jarring after 5 years. I hope the overall level of the wave scanner hasn't gone down though, because it's quite enough as it is :)

This is very nice.

So happy that the team managed to fix this, I'm still a long way from civilisation but I'll definitely head back sooner than originally intended to check this out. @Jmanis 🥳

Pass, I'm afraid it didn't stick in my mind well enough.

Excellent news! White Dwarfs were indeed the worst, hopefully this extends to Neutron stars and Black holes too.

Phwoiiiiiiii indeed!

There's a lot of nice fixes and improvements in these notes, and there's a lot of nice QoL fixes that seem to have been less of a focus in previous updates. I'm hoping that bodes well for the situation.
Lets goooooooo!

I'll go check it out now.

This somehow was lost from the patch notes BUT:

Scorpion Cargo Bay - 2
Scarab Cargo Bay changed from 2 to 4.

We'll add it to the original list soon.
Cool. And then two important questions arose:
1) Will Scorpio have a data feed scanner? If so, why do we need a Scarab now, just as a truck?
2) Quest Ram-Takh. How will obelisks behave if they are "shown" 3 or 4 objects? New behavior or will it choose "matching keys"?

Sally, your continued enthusiasm, and positivity throughout the year has been an absolute inspiration. This need to be called out…. especially when you consider the tidal wave of s**t and the (seemingly) never-ending negativity, directed towards the FDev team (by some in the community) since Odyssey released.

Thanks for keeping us all informed with your fantastic update notes and ongoing posts.

I hope you guys get some time off to enjoy the festive season.

o7 CMDRs!

Awesome news. Stupid question maybe, but here goes. Do all the visual updates and performance improvements also apply to VR? Meaning, if we get things that look prettier in pancake mode and more fps there, will that translate to pretier things in VR and more fps there as well?

We'll find out later... Although, logically, it should mean just that!
