Night all...or morning all...whatever...
The new series of the Expanse.....hmmm. Not the slam dunk I was expecting.
If I have yet another Aravasalalralargharh monologue over shots of the Rocinate crew grimacing I'll make Ty watch all of ST Discovery non stop.

Discovery wasn't as bad as voyager.
Thats a bold statement. STV got better as time went on, ST Discovery....has not (IMO at least).
Voyager was my favourite space trek.
Capt Jane was better than capt Picard and the concept of being lost in space a bit more interesting than just faffing about avoiding robots in boxes.
I don't think Voyager did a very good job with the execution of the 'stranded far from home' concept. It was mostly a string of deus ex machinas and marginal character development to go along with it.
That said, even Voyager is high-art compared to Kurtzman's stuff. I liked about half of the first season of Discovery, but it rapidly got worse from there. As for Picard, as an attempt at sci-fi action adventure, I give it a 3.5 out of ten, but it was one of the dumbest takes on and most inane retconning of the Star Trek universe ever and I find it hard to believe that Kurtzman ever did more than five minutes of research into the franchise before unwittingly deciding to torpedo it. 1/10 Trek...with the bonus points from the few token references an callbacks that didn't get mangled.

The first half of Disco was the strongest it ever was or has been due in no small part to Jason Isaacs performance. I hoped at the time we would get a morally ambiguous Starfleet officer but they had to change him mid-season to a leather-clad mirror universe imposter. After that, I lost all hope that Disco would even pretend to be a Trek show.
I'll say that Saru and to an extent Stamets are some of the best Trek characters going but the writers who have a Burham fetish have done as much as they can to hobble both charters without killing them off. Also, Tilly is Ensign Kim and that's a hill I'll happily die on.

Not really over the course of the show you'll see a lot of grimacing and monologues.

I believe @Red Anders said the other day in regards to this thread that its not about the destination its about the journey and I had flashbacks to Ensign Kim saying that in the Voyager finale.

But its such a trope now, and its use has escalated over the series to the point its quite cringeworthy. Compare it to seasons 1 (or the Navoo arc) and the differences are stark.
There was an image released before season 6 that seems to indicate they'll have another lasagne moment that bonds the crew.
I hated how they are handling not having Alex about, its tiresome as well as a waste of storytelling time after S5 and the excessive Naominess. They should have kept Bull (because he's got actual presence) and lessened the animosity as its a distraction. Before I watched the new episode I rewatched S5 E10 and it was jarring how Peaches being let on the ship was almost a comedic moment with Holdens face.
I miss Jared Harris, because I'd love him to be against Marco- Marco has the charisma but Dawes has the brains, and seeing how they fall out like they did in the book would be an excellent Ceres B story material.
But I'll give it the benefit of the doubt but it makes me wince a bit watching. Its not bad, but its not really treating its lack of runtime with the urgency it demands.
