I hope not create "a fuss" but i think that the best solution would be to have all the current mode (solo offline for the releases + solo online, group and open on-line) P2P.... and an additional mode more like a MMO where the server is held by FD (with MMO elements such as more support for groups, chat chanel, social section, improve MP, etc ..) with payment of a subscription. One can thus choose whether to play the game as it is now (free), or go to the management of FD (subscription)

Tell your opinion

Uhm, nope.
Community fragmentation is the first issues in mind. Plus- not a subscription based game. Not ever again.

So.... after seeing a thread where everyone (EVERYONE) pretty much said they wouldn't pay a subscription fee. You create a poll asking if people would be interested in a mode where they paid the subscription fee?

Permission to giggle?

If FD wanted to make an pure MMO they would have done that so no. There are plenty of those around already. There is only one Elite.

Maybe this is an answer to my post on the other thread asking why there's no poll to have an overview. LOL :D

Voted no, with all these 'mode' suggestions that have been flying round in recent months it could get ridiculous, 'Elite Dangerous, Blaze your own trail in your own mode, want an I like Marmite but not cats online mode? - we have that''

sorry but if we still have all the current mode (free) ... and only those who want to pay a subscription to a service that only he wants to, where is the problem? (except for the "ego".... and/or maybe feel "B series"?)

I hope not create "a fuss".....
peace..:eek::eek::D

Thanks for the poll - maybe it will let us see which way the wind really blows with regard to the need for a more familiar MMO experience (which would require Frontier to change the game fairly significantly).

You can't always get what you want. But might find. That sometimes. You get what you need.

its not going to happen....... but just for friday fun, lets say it did, and you wonder why the rest of us would feel upset?

Simple really, so long as FD stick with P2P they will feel obliged (aka pressured) into making it work.

Hypothetically, if FD dumped P2P and spent what would be a lot of manpower getting a subs version up and running, those left in P2P, who had not coughed up more money, or demanded a refund would well and truly be 2nd class citizens as it is highly unlikely FD would feel the need to spend the time on the P2P code.

The next step on would be the people in the paid for service then saying, "this isnt fair, we pay loads, we want some unique content!!!"

Given It is fair to say most people here on this forum are probably the most obsessed with the game, I suggest they are also probably the most likely to be prepared to pay even more money for it..... and yet even with that huge selection bias, so far it still looks like less than 13% of you will be in this new "special mode for Special people"

Good luck with you getting an exciting packed PvP mulltiplayer experience with that.

so have fun :p

If I thought it would help FD then I might consider a subscription even though I hate subscriptions. FD aren't stupid though and they went for a p2p model as anybody with industry experience can tell you that a true MMO on this scale is about as far from possible as you can get.

Maths time. Assume each zone server can handle 5000 systems (an absurd number as it would be much lower). With just 400 million systems that is 80,000 zone servers needed. Assume £50 rent per server each month (again and absurd number) and you have a monthly cost of £4,000,000 just to keep the lights on. Now scale that up to 400 BILLION systems and factor in real dedicated server hosting prices and server speeds.

Now assume there are 100,000 players paying for the game that leaves you £40 per month for your sub. The real cost would actually be far higher.

Even the current situation strikes me as lacking focus. Adding more modes would be plain silly.

Also, I think I need to start my own thread: I propose removing the ability to create polls.

can we have a poll on that please?

edit

damn the shame....... ninja'd by a kerbal

sigh!!!...do I have to?

for that make it 30 times counterclockwise at sprinting speed after 3 double jd's and coke.

As for the OP suggestion, If people wanted a MMO of this with a subscription plan then it would have already been implemented by Frontier seeing as most of the development plans and ideas of this game has gone through the community for approval and fine tuning of the general concepts, also subscription based games are currently going the way of the dodo due to the financial and economic downturns the world is currently experiencing. the best you could hope for (not me though) is a freemium setup, which would likely be lots of microtransactions and game progression boosters while Frontier host a server for us all to connect to, this however would be a bad idea imo as it would then tilt the game in favor of those with the bigger wallets.
