Modding Elite Dangerous?

I honestly tried to search for this, but couldn't find any threads on it.

Has the ability to mod ED ever been discussed? Would love to see what new cockpit designs or warping effect modders could come up with if modding were to be allowed.

And to assure the "unfair advantage" crowd - mods would be disabled online, and would only work in SP Offline mode, kind of like how Oolite switches between Strict Mode and normal.

A simple consistency check would probably be sufficient. That way modders could even play with each other if they have the same version mod. MP mods really kept FL alive for a long time. There's even new ones coming out still. Had they been SP only I can't imagine this happening.

The devs have expressed a desire/intention to implement modding tools down the road.

Everyone wants tools. But I don't think tools are as important as making the engine accessible. Lots of modern games release "tools" but have no modding community because the engine is locked down with DRM to hell and back and/or has some really obtuse design or baking mechanism. Modding is supposed to be fun, dealing with that sort of thing isn't, and so modders just stay away.

All the best games for modding, FL included, had absolutely no tools. What they did have was a fairly straight forward set of files that was easy for the community to decode (for the most part).

Don't make a model tool, just document the format.
Battlefield famously saw the modding community create their own level editor which ended up being so much better than DICE's internal editor that they ended up using it all the way up until 2142, and it wouldn't surprise me if there isn't still traces of it in their internal Frostbite editor. All because the level format was easy to mod, not because of any tools as their previous internal tool was beyond useless.

And of course keeping hardcoding to a minimum helps too.

They have said more generally that they'll look into supporting modding. The tools bit was mentioned in the Kickstarter FAQ:

Will you be able to script your own missions for your friends to play through?

It's something I'd like to see, but supporting dev tools externally is not something we'd want to do on day one. Down the line, maybe...

I attempted to make a zoom mod of my own... Here it is:

I started playing Elite Dangerous
I love the game but It doesn't make sense to my that my ships computer does not remember the trading info from the stations I've already visited.

At first I made myself a spreadsheet with the info and that was fine, if a bit boring to enter the data manually.
But as soon at you move around a bit the amount of data get out of hand.

So I move on the a database but again, entering that amount of data every time I visit a new station take a lot away from the enjoyment of the game.

I've been trying to find a way to collect and save that data in my database automatically while i'm playing.

The closest I got was finding the .trd files in :
Users-Username-AppData-Local-Frontier Developments-Elite Dangerous-430407-388417702259.trd

by searching for the ones that are modified while I play.

and although it has some of the info that I'm looking for .

The amount variable doesn't seem to have anything to do with the sell and buy prices I wish to collect.

This indicates to me that the info i'm looking for is stored on the server.

But since the price are shown on my computer screen that means they are actually sent to my pc somehow !

There must be a way to capture that locally and that is what i'm looking for.

Can anybody help get me started ?

Or show me to resources that will, sites, forums ... anything that will point me in the right direction.

I know I have a lot to learn but I'm willing.

Somehow my font was set to black and I do not have permissions to edit it, so sorry but here it is again:

No. Not possible. As they rejected any plans for single player, there be no mods becouse of DRM. And any player made mod will be consider as hacking/tampering with files which could result to perma ban.
As long as its DRM there wont be any mods. Simple as that.

You can do a lot much more with modding than just a star wars graphic mod. Look at freespace, additional ~150+ missions created. Look at darthmod which makes game like shogun 2 a lot better. Not to mention skyrim which you can mod whatever you want.
I bought this game becouse of promises of single player in the hopes one day to see big modding community. Not only game is total mess, FD dismised single player and modding, things they promised, things why i bought this game as things which wont work with their so called ''vision''.

Don't worry. Skyrim has a Star Wars mod too. Using the Force to grab bandits and throw them off cliffs is the best thing ever.

There IS no offline mode, solo mode is still online. They announced a couple of weeks ago that they had stopped all development on an offline mode.
