Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Now trying to narrow down the discussion of scope creep to a cherry picked discreet period is disingenuous at best and downright misleading and lying at worst.

Its the same when you try and discuss other games with them. Focus on only what SC has, ignore what other games offer. Make sure the only correct answer is Star Citizen.

We can discuss if certain scope creep elements have been actually implemented properly or not. Most are broken to some degree anyways etc and will still require additional work. But all that would be beside the point, scope creep simply diverts resources and as a result it will most likely impact other things that could have benefited from those resources. Never mind any knock on effects that scope creep has on other content and features that in turn require additional time or resources to adjust etc.

You can add lots of features to a game - it's that SC thinks it can not add features but entire games to the game. This is where it fails, not by concentrating on core game mechanics and features.

I would argue that much of the scope creep not directly related with core mechanics/features and content is simply a testament to Chris Roberts and CIG inability to deliver on those core elements, a distraction from the fundamental issues that allows them to excuse delays and get more funding, all in one.

Classical scam - can't deliver what you peddle - enlarge the "vision" and tell big nollocks about it.

Remember when CIG asked backers to vote on which career they should focus on next, and the community voted for exploration, so CIG did mining?

Remember when CIG asked the community whether they should continue funding, keep expanding the scope, but said that doing so wouldn't significantly delay release as they would simply add more resources, so they added so much stuff that release has been delayed now by 8 years and counting?

Got to love CIG's community votes.

Is this what the game is? ORG building for free ships?

And what did Montoya offer him to join his ORG? Other free ships?

This is the thread i didn't know i needed in my life.

As a SC backer since 2014, it was about 2017 when it slowly dawned on me i would need to pass on my andromeda pledge in my will if anyone was going to actually get any use out of it in a "full game".

I made a post on the SC reddit a few months ago asking why after nearly 10 years of development, i still wouldn't be able to get my turrets operated by some kind of AI in 2022.

"but but....blades". Sorry what? I just want them to shoot. I got savaged by foaming SC fanboys after that.

My opening response statement is always about how they eventually want 200 systems and its taken 10 years to just about realise one.

I also find it oddly frustrating how anytime a slick new ship is concept ready, all these odd people start foaming at the mouth and cannot be stopped from throwing another $700 at the screen for a ship that doesn't even exist with an alpha yet. Like, the ships are really cool and have very nice interiors but it stops there. Its like they forego all sense of reality and sense just to walk around some cool new ship.

The other maddeningly frustrating thing is the email updates i get from CIG periodically. So full of techno babble they are probably not even accurate. Or they talk about how they added or revamped loads of new insignificant features no one asked for like barkeep's wavy hair flowing in the wind or the toilets flushing.

Like, make the core mechanics first, then worry about new features.....

At this point, its a cult, not a playerbase.

Welcome to one really big Hotel California thread :D

110 systems were paid for by backers, not 200.

But can totally relate to your post.

So full of techno babble they are probably not even accurate.

If you can't blind them with science, baffle them with bull excrement.

Ant, you're priceless......so, after a decade what is the age status of the SC Alpha pray tell?.......early?........pre-pubescent?........pipeline dependent?
According to CIG: Star Citizen is in early alpha development (essential core tech still required, e.g. Dynamic Server Meshing), in early access, and playable now. With micro and macro pay2win/pay2skip transactions.

Meanwhile, Theaters of War, SATABall, and Squadron 42 are vaporware.

Have to say this about Derek Smart, he is a game developer who knows about how to develop games that are buggy messes and overpromised a lot. So he most likely DOES know what he is talking...when he is talking about SC.
