Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Lol, 3.16 is a lie ;)

However, Alpha 3.16 wasn’t stable enough, so it was decided to use Alpha 3.15.x and piecemeal specific features in. This worked well, so the internal branch ID of 3.15.2 (externally called 3.16.0) was pushed to the PTU and LIVE with several 3.16 features in a much more stable build.

Also they’ve re-made all the heads…

To close the year out, the Tech Animation team set a mandate to finish upgrading all head assets to the new pipeline in preparation for the full DNA system refactor. This is a long-standing initiative that will hopefully conclude in early 2022.

“To get us there, we need to recreate every single head asset in the game and check it’s still working as we intend. All hands are on deck for this one, with the whole team pushing to reach the finish line.”

Jeebus, that update, its full of guff. I bet the faithful are lapping it up.

AI Content continued to improve the bartenders and patrons for Alpha 3.16 and added more drink options
Yes, because SC really needs more drink options

‘Busy work’ animations were also devised to increase variety when the bartender isn’t serving patrons
Yes, because they bartenders really need more animations.

Progress was made on the Subsumption editor tool.
Subsibblysumption has some progress! Outstanding!

In the UK, the Ship Team progressed well with the MISC Hull A
UK team is working on ships? What happened to UK being totally focused on getting SQ42 out of the door? Why is it part of the JPG factory?

The Hull C moved through the pipeline too and is currently approaching its greybox review.
I've seen backers claim the Hull C is actually finished. Its still not greybox.

moved through the whitebox phase before greybox work commenced in December.
More ships...

An all-new vehicle progressed through whitebox, while the Banu Merchantman progressed towards greybox.
BMM creeping toward greybox. When did they first sell this ship?

The Drake Corsair moved into greybox,
Greybox again

In late November, the team moved on to salvaging.
Salvaging, that they've been working on since at least 2016, is finally being worked on???

Throughout the year, work on the hacking minigame continued.
Priorities CIG, priorities.

The last major focus was on jump points, which are progressing well.
Sure they are CIG, the same jump points you showed off working in 2017?

Finally, R&D for salvage commenced.
Hold on, you just said salvage is being worked on, now you're saying they're just starting the R&D for it???

The new Building Blocks editor entered pre-production towards the end of the year, which will make working on UIs more efficient and developer-friendly.
10 years, finally figuring out how to make building UIs more efficient

On the art side, the team created a variety of new concepts for the mobiGlas, AR markers, Starmap, Aegis HUD modes, and Origin HUD. Updated icons for the law system were concepted too.
10 years, reworking base components, again.

Fun thread

The backers are fighting

Tied to rope?

SC fan asks the challenging question of whether SC is for you with a video entitled Star Citizen explained.

Straight off the bat, explains how no publishers is a good thing only, no mention of the downsides, especially in relation to a "visionary" like Chris who needs a publisher to ensure he delivers something.

Brings up the poll presenting it as a something that was overwhelmingly positive (showed first poll, not the much closer second poll), with no mention of how CR said they were voting for more in the same time, not more in a longer time.

"They have the agility, the means, and the time to create an insane product..." - lol, CIG, agility? Means? Time is the only thing they have, and that's because backers keep excusing them.

At least brings up bugs in relation to patience. Bugs are not a typical experience??? LOL, not from what I hear. Crashes rare? Hmm...

Install it on a SSD! I mean, how many gamers don't have a SSD these days?

ITS ALPHA!!!

To be fair, does a good job of showing what you can do.

"Groups that takes weeks to fly to the star" - the one star, that isn't actually a star.

"I've already listed more places than you could visit before the next system is in place" - lol, that is so much guff.

It only costs $45 to play!!! yeah, right. And how many people actually stop there? "Buying ships in game is better" of course it is, until the next wipe. Which he conveniently doesn't mention.

"That $45 gets you a game" - Totally presenting it as a playable game despite his earlier disclaimers.

"Offers an experience out there that nobody else is doing" - NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!

"Use my referral code" - of course!

Development is speeding up!!!

Oh...

"For Vanduul combat, a section of gameplay was completed where enemy perception is reduced when searching for the player. This led to discussions of how to implement low visibility and other sense reductions across the board. They then prototyped the initial implementation for this specific gameplay use, which will also be used as a springboard for fully developing the feature. Vanduul perception and investigation progressed too."

I don't even.

I've seen backers claim the Hull C is actually finished. Its still not greybox.
I think CiG were discussing that a few years ago, stating that the only blocker was its transformation (the ship can extend to reveal the cargo carrying arms). Looks like they lied again.

More ships...

BMM creeping toward greybox. When did they first sell this ship?

Greybox again
To be fair, that's more a question of priorities (between ships) vs being late for delivery. The 3D asset team has consistently delivered, doing a good job honestly, for all of these 10 years. In the fantasy hypothesis where someone would buy back the project, this is the only thing they should keep. The same assets ported to UE5 would look really great.

Hold on, you just said salvage is being worked on, now you're saying they're just starting the R&D for it???
That's typical CiG, preparing their cultists for another non-delivery.

10 years, reworking base components, again.
Again typical CiG. Instead of working on the still completely buggered core engine, let's redo everything again spending tens of millions of $$ of sweet whale backer money...
