Why did VR users buy Odyssey knowing FD stance on no longer supporting VR?

ltp owner however I finding the in ship parts of ED:O playable. performance is no where near horizons but it's ok. I do have a high end rig however.
i gave up on the on foot stuff. I play fpsers on a monitor so it's not like I have an inherent issue with FPS not in VR but for me it just isn't very good content.
ED is in kind of a small group of games for what it does in ship. bit FPSers the bar is really high. whether it is lack of experience, engine limitations or lack on investment I dunno , but to me forgetting the vr issue it's just lacklustre content on foot.. it reminds me of an early Xbox 360 era game in terms of visuals.

so I just play the same way i did horizons, but with more planets to land on (not that I have that much and there in lies another issue, it's not meshed into the game well. there is no coming reason for me to need to land on new planets really imo. perhaps that is my personal issue however . I like to have a purpose not just doing stuff because I can. I miss the (albeit loose and optional) scripted campaign in 1st encounters.

).

I hope they revisit the surface tech however. the planet genometry is far less interesting than horizons imo.

I didn't buy Odyssey for the reason in the title. Just wondering why others might have bought it.
Thanks!
Edit
Ideally from those who bought it as an expansion, not as LEP and
Feel free to sell it to those who haven't bought it yet etc
Why did I buy Odyssey? Because, performance not withstanding, I can have literally the exact same awesome VR experience as I was having in Horizons, except I have to make a minor concession if I hit the "Disembark" button. And for that minor concession, I get an entire extra system of gameplay loops that I generally enjoy, and a greater sense of depth to the experience.

Why am I okay with this? Because games that add 360 view while still requiring keyboard and mouse for movement and head-look/aiming make me sick in VR. And because I am willing to be understanding of the fact that, with all of the other technical challenges of making Odyssey a thing (and boy are there a lot of them, and boy are they still trying to play catch-up to fixing all of it), integrating true full VR motion controls to the experience for a niche portion of the player population was a task they had to cut from the list. And make no mistake, if they're gonna do on-foot VR? I want them to do REAL on-foot VR, not head-look with keyboard and mouse controls.

And if I were going to ask for one thing to make the experience better (until they're willing to do real motion-controller VR and not just headlook), all I'd want is for the on-foot pancake screen in the headset to also activate normal full-screen on my display. That'd let me take the headset off for a bit and use on-foot gameplay as a rest break from having the headset on.

"ODYSSEY DOESN'T SUPPORT VR OMG RUINED" is hysterical hyperbole. The only concession I've ever had to make for Odyssey was to consider if I want to mostly fly ships in a play session or if I want to mostly be on foot. If I want to mostly be on foot, I play on a display. If I want to be fully immersed in my seat, I sit down and strap on my headset. I have lost exactly nothing in VR by gaining Odyssey, I just haven't gained anything new.

For players with top-end PCs who can play Odyssey in VR at maximum settings without stutter, jutter, and general low FPS, and who don't mind morphing mountains and dancing shadows in an otherwise realistic virtual reality space, I can see how they would enjoy Odyssey. These people spend multiple thousands of dollars on their VR rigs, so what is an extra $40 to them for some bluish skies? Though IIRC, a surprising number of VR players do not think this is enough. 🤷‍♂️
Ooh, so much salt it this paragraph. But yeah, I'm more than happy with my Odyssey experience.

Might be time to take another look then, I was seeing performance drops rendering it unplayable in VR (besides the quality issues which is Old Duck's point) but I'm not opposed to trying again if ED have it under control now.

It's generally been decent for me, and I'm on a 1080ti which is a good card but quite outdated now. You will possibly see a bit of a performance hit with lighting/shadows and anti-aliasing, but once you're out of a station, that becomes fairly irrelevant even if it is happening to you.

I got the Alpha before they said they weren't going to pursue it further. If I'd known, I might have held off.
However, in ship and SRV, VR is playable in Odyssey, and the lighting is much more realistic.
I loaded up in Horizons after playing Ody, and I felt like I'd gone from reality back to playing a game—it's that different.
