Latest official news (6 December 2021) about Odyssey on consoles:

When we`ll get an announcement is anyones guess. But you dont do 11 updates over 7 moths to a half finished game expansion without gaining significant insights into what state its in and what that means for any potential future console port.

So given that, it feels like a update is well overdue now.

It shouldn't be a potential port though... they announced the DLC was coming to PC and console in 2018, and were up until May 2021 saying it was releasing imminently...

I think everyone is acutely aware of how wrong that turned out to be. Different world now.

So 8 months

Either they've canned it completely or they have 8 months of development work to back-port to an old build.

It's not looking good.
If they have indeed canned it completley then they will be aware thats not information you can keep to yourself indefinitley, particularly if console pre-orders are in play. I mean hoestly, given everything thats taken place up until now, who knows how this will end up.

All we can say with any certainly is that things could have been handled better.......

TBH I really doubt that hello games is still working with only 6 members. As successful as NMS has been they've made more than enough money to expand as much as they need/want.

That being said let's say for arguments sake that elite is infact far far far more complex than nms from a programming perspective. It really isn't that difficult for them to create more ships/srvs as filler to keep its playerbase interested. HG has no problem with this.

Anyway ...with elite dangerous, they just convinced me not to buy another frontier game on console, it was obviously a mistake that I will not start again.
I'm with you on that one. Not only never buy a frontier game, i've decided to not ever buy Arx for Elite Dangerous ever again.

Wow 8 months since I last checked for any Odyssey information and it's still on hold with no news on further development expected?

It's actually soul crushing how dissapointing this all is. From getting Odyssey trailers for console and PC for a delay on console then 8 months radio silence on the matter? At this point, I've just accepted that they are cutting off the console playerbase once the Horizons client merges with Odyssey considering how seemingly problematic it is to get Odyssey to work on console.

Maybe I'll check back in another 8 to 12 months hoping to at least see something. It's just such a shame for the game I've loved playing for the last 5 years.

I guarantee we will get news on console. Financial year end is looming, and the company have made commitments to shareholders about making money off the back of console sales in this financial year. They will be obligated to tell their shareholders if that is not going to happen.

So only 12 weeks to wait at most...

Do you have any information on Odyssey on consoles?
There currently isn't any new information to share in terms of Odyssey on consoles. We hear you, as soon as we do have something worth sharing with you, we will. At the moment, work is focused on PC optimisation.

When is the next Development Update post?
You can expect the next Elite Development Update in the new year.

In other words, Odyssey has not been cancelled on consoles (yet?), but the focus on PC version updates will continue for the foreseeable future.
Odyssey runs not great on high end PC hardware. A console would just ignite if it attempted to run odyssey.
