I mainly want Odyssey for FC interiors, and maybe the on foot exploration. Is it worth it for those 2 things? I will not be doing any FPS missions.

I do not care for FPS games so would likely never even try most of the new mission content.

But I did see where you can fly to planets/moons and scan plants for their info or whatever so I might try that.

Other than that I would just be walking around in my FC, flying around outside my FC, going to a hazres here and there, and other Horizons type stuff.

Do you think that only wanting to have a FC interior is worth the price of Odyssey?

Also, is the UI basically the same as in Horizons or is everything different besides retaining ranks, reputation, and assets?

I hope everything is retained.
Thank you.

Yes, yes and yes again!

Even if you don't do combat there are plenty of legal on foot missions to settlements to pick up stuff and make deliveries, and touristing around the settlements is nice for a change. The UI thing is pretty much irrelevant because eventually Horizons menu's and gal/system map and all other stuff will change to match Odyssey so using them now or later is the only difference. But exploring yes, extra planets, atmospheres and new plants, it's all worth it!

UI has a number of changes, not hard to accommodate, though. Exobiology career is OK, wears thin after a time (like, weeks or months lol) given the amount of scans needed to rank up, but if you go out into the black to do it, you will get to see a great many varieties of terrain and planetary details. I have been doing settlement Restore and Transportation missions since returning to the bubble, the only way to get upgrade and mod mats for the suits, but they are fairly interesting if a bit repetitive. Most fun on foot so far is doing Covert Heists, very challenging and fraught with tension lol. I have had to kill some NPCs in the process but most were criminals anyway. So the FPS experience isn't worthless but I doubt I will be doing any ground CZs, so my Merc rank will stay low. My reco is to try some of the missions out and see if anything tickles your fancy.

That's true but also need to keep in mind you can easily purchase level 3 suits and weapons from Pioneer Supplies if you shop around and that should do for a lot of missions, some even come with pre-installed mods.

Oh, I did that for G3 suits all around :D. Gotta use my billions for something lol. But the upgrade grind is not as bad as I originally thought it might be, and since Night Vision (mainly for my Artemis suit) is so desirable, I figured it's worth the effort, hence the Covert Heists. On one now, actually, wish me luck and sneakiness.

Odyssey isn't exactly expensive just buy it if you want those features.

I do very little on foot combat, and I think it's well worth it.

Saying that, I don't play many FPSers either, but I have tried a bit of on foot combat, and it's good fun in moderation.

Don't think of that bit as a separate FPS game, it's the same game you are playing now. It not like ship to ship combat in the main game is a separate game.

Ultimately, only you can answer that question. For me, I think the cost of Odyssey is modest in relation to the features I use (and I don't do much on-foot combat).

.
That was my thought when I pre-ordered Odyssey. I stopped playing pewpew games 15/20 years ago, I only very rarely shoot other Ships in ED

Was still my thought 3/4 month after release. I only did the Missions that avoided footy pewpew, managing to obtain upgrades/mods for the stuff I'd purchased...............

..............very slowly though, I started doing simple pewpew, like using Dumbfire Missiles to clear out NPC's.
Then, as my gear improved, I started leaving 1 or 2 to take out on foot, then 5/6 as I got more confident & my crappy combat skills improved.
This increased to a stage now that I don't mind doing Settlements Raid Missions wiping out 22 NPC's on foot..........so I get killed a few times, through stupid decisions in the field (mainly standing there like Stalone in a Rambo movie, or forgetting to raise my Shield).

It's the Stealth type Mission's I still avoid though, but doing a lot more pewpew now than I ever thought in ED.

Firstly, wait for the release of the update to see what it actually brings to the table and how stable the entire thing is. FDev have had a lot of issues with quality control of their content patches.

Secondly, wait for a sale. I think I saw Elite and Odyssey on sale over at humblebundle, but not sure if the sale is still up. Frankly, I wouldn't pay more than 15€ for Odyssey at the moment (stupid me pre-ordered and paid even more to participate in the pointless Alpha 🤦‍♂️)

I'm playing ODY and I'm not very interested in the FPS gameplay - the planet tech, while not quite what was advertised, is still a big step up, and offers more variety of missions. There are non combat missions to settlements and planet surfaces.

@gooddoc I was the same as you, I didn't really expect to be interested in the FPS style gameplay. At first I was really bad at it, like you, I mostly relied on dumbfire missiles. Over the time I've been playing EDO I have got more and more into the FPS gameplay and its pretty much all I do now. I even like the stealth missions where you have to sneak in do something and get out without killing anyone or raising any alarms. Those missions can be really tense.

@Aaron T I honestly think the game is worth buying even if you don't believe you will be interested in a large element of the gameplay. You will still get the beautiful atmosphere planets and the vastly improved lighting, EDO can be really stunning at certain moments. Also, like gooddoc and myself you might find you enjoy aspects of EDO that you didn't anticipate.

Edit for spelling

Its absolutely worth it.
Odyssey is amazing (IMO) and even if you dont like FPS like me, the scavenger missions and reactivation stuff is really fun.
I had a blast doing the missions for Engineer unlocks and actually really enjoyed the surface conflict zones which i thought i would hate.

It just adds a lot more stuff to do

So my thoughts are I have a lot of game play for my original cost of the game so it would be well worth it .
However there is a lot of not to like about EDO ?
And should I vote by not buying it ?
Or should I blindly buy it because ?
It's the quandary I'm in and Frontier don't seem to be selling EDO to me , it's like they expect us to just buy it.
It's very much a personal choice .... And I still don't know .

Also just to answer your two main questions (sorry just waking up after a long night), Fleet Carriers are a game changer, its completely changed the way i play for the better and i cant wait for interiors.
Foot exploration is just a bonus for those extra screen shots.
As for scanning plants its an extra thing i suppose but i dont go out of my way to do it.

Thank you everyone. I will watch the forum and YouTube after the update and see how it goes. I can enjoy some FPS, I just like to fly more. I am Triple Elite, a King and an Admiral, I have a FC and an elite crew member, and I am hoping that the FC interiors, the new lighting, some on foot stuff and such will add some more spark to ED for me.
