From the Inara data that Artie posted in the other thread (from "tens of thousands" of players, covering a 30 day period), it can reasonably be surmised that less than 10% of the player-base engage in PvP - that being the case, there's no compelling case to make any game feature Open only....I'm excited we are on page two already.
We've a long way to go so I'll say that we don't need Open only, but obviously the BGS and PP should only be affected in Open.
Just imagine the queue for a pad....Im not sure if this was prolly posted a hundred million times before but here I go.
Can FDEV just change the game to OPEN Mode and have an option to flag your self as a pvper or non-pvper.
This way the game will feel much more alive ESPECIALLY as it has the BIGGEST map of any game available.
Imagine seeing everyone in a Community event.

I don't know why you are disappointed. Robert has brought fresh new data points to this often repeated, boring, old and easily searchable topic. No Robert, you should have mentioned that we all bought the game knowing that all modes affect the BGS.
I am disappointed.
Never gonna give you upCool wind in my hair...
That goes without saying. No Robert, you should have mentioned that we all bought the game knowing that all modes affect the BGS.

Considered what to put here, but I think just maybe in the future we can just close these threads and point them in the direction of the other threads that are already open and about the exact same thing and that could have been found not even using the search function but just looking at the first page of threads!
Oh yes....no!
So while I appreciate the fact you've at least put a bit more thought into it than average, it's just not a very practical solution.

isn't there already an active thread open at like 800 pages by now
Yep. This - rather than PvP, even assuming the "flag" idea could be made to work - is the biggest problem with "everyone in one instance" ideas ... the stations just aren't really designed for it. And that's fair enough, because 99.9% of the time they don't need to be.It's not a terrible idea, but the game isn't designed well for dealing with lots of players at once, and that's exactly what you'd get.
Megaships, for example, only have one large landing pad, and they're often the center of CGs. So you'd have single players able to troll the entire community. This could be fixed, but it's just one of many examples that are ALREADY fixed by having multiple modes.

I did a run in the current Colonia CG in Open (in an unshielded Type 9 at that). And I couldn't dock, because there were no available large pads at the station. There weren't even that many players about - it was all the NPC Belugas and Orcas reserving the pads. I could have waited a few minutes for it to clear ... or I could just change mode and dock. And that's a (slightly unusual) full-size station, not a megaship or outpost with severely limited pads.
