Right, I LOVE my movies...
LOVE LOVE LOVE Em,
Good uns, rubbish... low budgets, HUGE budgets... foreign, Anime.. I used to buy videos from Global Video Ex-Rental store in Glasgow using the following priorities.
1. Horror
2. Highest Certificate first.
3. Movie length..
Thats about it.... found some amazing crap... Dario Argento... what a good splatter movie maker. (sorry if i spell ur name wrong Dario)

So I figure lets share what we've seen and what we love.. recommend to each other..

GREAT SPANISH movie : The Orphanage - Directed: Juan Antonio Bayona
Typical scary movie with eerie ghosty theme, but heartbreaking and heartwarming too around the violent gore (not excessive - two or three scenes)
I feel this tag line sums it up.
(Its a far better movie than 'The Others')

The Host (2006) Directed: Joon-ho Bong
Gwoemul (original title) South Korean movie..
Its a monster flick, but its the length of the story, how far it goes that utterly captivates you. Its about the people not the creature... its almost metaphorical if it wasn't for its blooming teeth and hunger.
Great movie..

We Bought a zoo (2011) Directed: Cameron Crowe
Well no surprises here, formulaic family fun.. but GOOD.. perfect for a sunday afternoon with the kids. tears, and cheers.

There we go some little slices...

I'm going to throw some obscure ones out there since I don't think mainstream movies need more publicity:

1) Man from Earth - Really, more of a play than a film, stay away if you don't like talky movies. Man reveals to his colleagues on the day he is moving on some shocking details about his life.

2) Bitten - Paramedic realises his high maintenance girlfriend is REALLY high maintenance.

3) Midnight Meat Train - Pre-Fame Bradley Cooper discovers some nasty secrets about the New York subway system.

Midnight Meat Train??? is that Vinnie Jones too?
That was a film of two halves... enjoyed that one..

Was watching another movie called the visitors I think.. need to double check that.. but he falls asleep on the train and wakes up to see two children on the train sleeping near him as well. He see's noone else and gets off the train and it pulls away.

He is haunted by these children.. and the sad thing is... My hard drive died before I could see the end... NEED to find it.. was very well done.

Kickass was an OK movie, hard to take it seriously it was pretty good if somewhat comic book..

Then of course if its alternative super hero movies you like...

Woody Harrelson in Defendor Good movie... slow
Rain Wilson in Super Comic book meets heavy violence.. REALLY good movie...

I enjoyed these, they are not typical super hero movies... very REAL..

Now thats one I have stalled over watching.... just not sure if I want to watch it or not...

Also if you like SCi-Fi horror stuff BBC 3 tonight. 'In The Flesh' a cure for zombies is the premise of this series and its painfully slow but goood.. worth suffering.

I don't have Sky. Whenever I've seen it at friends' houses it always seems to be showing adverts.


There are a lot of good movies on Freeview this week for Easter. I've never watched "No Country for Old Men" but I'm looking forward to seeing it soon.

Someone at Frontier was kind enough to circulate the news that 2001: A Space Odyssey is being shown at the Picture House in Cambridge this Sunday. I'm sure this'll be of interest to anyone that happens to live close by and it certainly makes my decision about what to do this Sunday easier! :)

I remember catching that the last time it was on at Cambridge Picture House. Must have been around ten years ago. Probably the most memorable thing about it was that they kept the intermission intact, which was a real blessing for those who like to get a pint or two downstairs before the show.

Yep, saw that a while ago, great film I enjoyed it a lot,

Something I'm looking forward to is Sin City 2, due out in October this year. Thought the 1st film was brilliantly shot and the casting was excellent. and a certain Miss Alba seems to stick in my mind for some reason :D

I think the last film I went to with an intermission was Lord of the Rings (cant remember which one!). Looking forward to 2001 though!

I'm also looking forward to this, I'm assuming it is a prequel though as I think Bruce Willis' character is in it.

Yes, Watchmen is good.

My wife is seriously into comics so I get to see everything like this. Not that I complain too much. ;)

that was a 'meh' movie for me... nice performances... but why? What did that movie achieve? I felt it was enjoyable but went nowhere...

I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.. 'No Country for Old Men'...

Channel 5 had Roadhouse on the other night and after I'd got the kids to bed settled down to enjoy a bit of Jeff Healey's guitar playing and violence etc.. :D

Problem was there was a ad break every 15 mins which after about 3 was driving me mad, I felt like shouting at the screed "i've got an attention span you know!!"

Shame thats the way TV has gone, a lot of people knock Sky and the BBC but at least their films don't have any ad breaks.

Holland has a channel - RTL5 - that can easily stretch a 2 hour film to 3 hours. And whatever length the film is, 5 minutes before it ends there is ALWAYS a 10 minute (I kid not) advert break.
