Console Update

If FDev do enable the ability to transfer from Console to PC then I hope they leave it relatively open ended.

I fully intend to take a break now and I would hate to find out that I missed some arbitrary window if I do come back.

So why we should stay on horizon when everything going foreward but HRZN not? Makes no sense to me
Because we love this game?

As many people say it before, at least free Horizons with FULL account transfer would be nice to players who can change from console to pc.

Also we'd (I hope I can speak in the name of others) like to have like guarantee that servers will not be turned off.
I believe made this decision wasn't easy, read it wasn't either. Many of us hoped Odyssey on consoles. Also many of us have thousands of hours in game time, doing exploration, working hard on BGS (Celestial Light Brigade, somebody?), or just enjoy the game. Don't waste those players, FDev!

I don't think trying to dunk on the mods is fair or reasonable here. I've seen how many posts have been deleted in this thread already today and they're volunteers, trying to keep ahead of a torrent of effluent. Be reasonable eh?
They have removed like 10 posts from a single troll but left the troll and all of their "Fdev did nothing wrong" comments sooooooo maybe a little accountability from the top down would go a long way here.

That being said I am not here to bash the mods. Certainly not for what the devs decided. (To clarify: by devs I meant the developer as a whole, Fdev. Not coders/workers)

Really a bit sad now.

I can still remember all the hype prior to PS4 release in the console forum section. We tried to gather all information prior to release, figure out which hardware to use, the best possible button mapping, gathering all the tips, tricks and guides from other parts of the forums etc. Everything to be prepared in the best possible way for release day.

This was genuinely one of the best times I had as a gamer. The first trips to Colonia and Sag A together with a friend. Figuring out the complex controls and learning new things, even after weeks and months of playtime. Distant Worlds 2 with the great community (it was still existent on consoles back then and we had great events).

All in all, I feel like my favorite game was taken away from me. I like many other games, but there is no other game I come back to on a regular basis.

I know, I can switch to PC. But after probably more than a thousand hours of playtime I definitely do not have the will to unlock all engineers again, to grind my ship to the best possible outfit again etc. So FDev, please give us at least the option to transfer our CMDRs to PC. But tbh right now I am not even sure if I would take the offer...

Anyway, o7 CMDRs.

How do you know its 'no longer profitable'? Do you work for fdev in the accounting dept? No you dont. This may boost PC sales and checking the steam numbers for an 8yr old game compared to the game everyone is using to compare (NMS if course) you may be forgetting not everyone plays on steam. At the moment even on Steam there are more people playing ED that EVE, and according to MMO Population site it is still in the top 15 (currently 10th or 11th place) and is in fact the highest ranked space combat/trading/exploration MMO . Yes its a shame they have had to do this and yes of course its going to upset a load of people but they (console gamers) can still play elite up to horizons just without the FPS and its a big galaxy out there.
How do I know this is? A) because of the fact that you can analyze frontiers financials and share prices. B) One can take the various indicators of player population and do the math, and C) Braben himself said that he's moved the company in the direction of publishing so that it can "pay for game development" back when he announced the plans to turn Fdev into a publisher. Clearly if you have to find another source of revenue to "pay" for something, than clearly that activity is not profitable. and lastly D) if you go over to the review sections of glass door, ex employees will striaght up state the conditions at the company and how it's been sliding down hill over time. It doesn't take an economic or business major to read these breadcrumbs and figure out what is obvious, however, several economic and business majors on this site have made said analysis over the years.

And by the way, there is nothing wrong with a company having to finance one activity with the proceeds from another, I just wish Fdev would quit lying about it.

And honestly, the Devs didn't decide this, Management did. As we've learned from the Odyssey debacle, the actual Devs themselves have little say in what goes on with this game. So again, management.

Someone will be along in a moment to remind you that you can still play it but with no future.
It's a bit like standing in rain at a bus stop whilst a car full of lads drive past shouting "Bus W#$%&*" at you.

Um becareful with the false positivity there. As of this moment there are currently NO PLANS, to allow or facilitate console -> PC account transfers, there is in fact a very distinct possibility Fdev will tell these people to just take a hike. And keep in mind the only reason why these people are making such a fluff, is precisely because they too "love this game", they are feeling betrayed right now and rightfully so. They just got told, no more game for them with no plans to move them over. Which honest is f**king stupid on Braben's part. He should have at least come with a "But don't fret, we have plans to enable you to transfer your commanders to PC"

You deliver bad news first THEN good news. This wasn't that, just bad news and nothing more.

Are people actually considering heading out tomorrow to buy a PC to continue playing Elite?
I doubt that FDev will put the time and effort into working

A bus you know that will never come...

Also he does say 'Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates' and one of the com managers says We are exploring options for transfers but at present have nothing to announce. That doesnt mean they wont do it it just means they have nothing to announce.

I have never ever understood for last 8 years why Frontier has so vague and non-transparent policy on everything that they could announce or even hint to about the future development of the game.

It has always been like "we have no plans at the moment / are currently looking for options / (add something vague that can be understood in many ways)".

And then after months when all the hope seems gone for atmospheric landings / ship interiors, BANG, Odyssey planets and Fleet Carrier interiors!

This would take the sting off, but I'd be playing solo. Most of the friends I've made on xbox don't have and probably won't have, a pc capable of running Ed comfortably for a while. I love the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm just really angry and disappointed. This game satisfied an itch I didn't know I had... now it's gone less than a month after it revealed this it has. Unless I want to play by myself and start from scratch. At least if there was some kind of consideration from fdev as described above it would take away some of the sting... but not all sadly. 😔

It has been wild. No point sticking around waiting for the announcement that console accounts "can't" be transferred in full. Like this bad news, it will reach me wherever I may be.

o7 you crazy CMDRs, I have a little hope I may see you on PC. Very little.

Others have posted this but I'll reiterate it...

Please clarify what if anything would prevent full account transfers from XBX to PC. If it's a technical issue or license issue or... whatever, please just be clear about what obstacles if any exist to prevent it. Let us know realistically why it may or may not happen. I do not think that is a huge ask.

As an aside, things I would happily do if it meant I could transfer my ranks, ships, and mods from XBX to PC:

1) Buy a new copy of ED along with Odyssey
2) Pay a small (<$25) one time fee to make the transfer.
3) Repurchase all my skins.

I do think fdev should proffer an explanation as to why they pulled the plug on consoles.
As previously posted alot of time and money (arx) has gone into it and now to be told its over with no port over....
Seems harsh...
So yes a detailed explanation perhaps to avoid a lawsuit
They don’t have to worry about a lawsuit. All of our digital goods purchased with Arx are still available. A judge will not side with you just because they’re not bringing an expansion to consoles.
