Console Update

As a PC commander I've been reading the last 60+ pages and do sympathize with our console commanders who got the short end of the stick.

However, what I am missing in the comments is the basic understanding of this digital age.
With every purchase of a game there is an agreement between the provider and the buyer (EULA).
When you pay for a game the provider will give access to the game (and possibly subsequent updates as needed).
As a user you "get" the right to play the game on the servers as provided.

And as end-user that is the ONLY right you have for as long as the franchise is providing that service.
When that service is no longer viable as a business (for whatever reason) the provider has the right to shut that service down.
Many games have gone before them and shut down and the Elite servers will (eventually) also be shut down.

So as long as you played the game:
Nobody held a gun to your head and forced you to play the game for thousands of hours.
Nobody held a gun to your head and demanded you pay hundreds of (insert currency) to pay for cosmetics in game.
Everybody has done so for their own enjoyment of the game.

Buying stuff in a digital environment you have no control over is money lost forever.
I myself have NEVER bought anything in-game with real money, only with credits earned while playing a game. (here: 400 ARX/wk)

But I do agree that Frontier has dropped the ball on several occasions:
They made a booboo releasing Odyssey with redesigned lighting and the on-foot experience at the same time.
They made a booboo when keeping shtumm about yes or no development for the consoles
They made a BIG booboo announcing the end of console development without providing a possible transfer of console accounts to PC.

Eh, its doesn't rhyme and I cant find the melody.

Is this a promise: "Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates" ?
Then how do you "focus on new content updates on PC on the post-Odyssey codebase" without making the as-it-is-now game become too outdated to continue? Will Horizons not stop working for PC version too or is the plan to "up" horizons on PC to Odyssey for free and then only end the life and support of the console version?
the plan was always to bring the Odyssey lighting and planet tech to Horizons, ie merging the code base. Horizons players wont be able to access the onfoot content or future Odyssey exclusive content.

I don't feel entitled to future development. However, FDev was RESPONSIBLE for it. They made the decision to grab cash and relevancy by becoming multi-platform. They had some responsibility therefore to make content that made SENSE for multi-platform. Console users are not 'entitled' to anything, but FDev takes some responsibility when it chooses to go multi-platform for their own benefit.

People are crazy if they think Elite would have the same weight and public consciousness it has today without the multi-platform take. It was a good move for the community as much as people whine about how it's 'hindered the gameplay and code base boohoo.' It brought new people and dollars that would never have come before. This brings with it the responsibility to manage said ecosystem and maintain it since it sells itself as a live service game. The fact that they decided to give UP on that responsibility is their 'right' as a company. But frontier as a whole should really be 'punished' by 'people expecting them to just not support multiplatform in the future n all their games. Full Stop.' They just aren't responsible enough. It deserves to shrink in relevancy too but, you know. That depends on how 'real' this, essentially what is, 'a promise things will be better on the pc version from now on' really pans out.

It's not a question of caring, protests accomplish nothing when you're dealing with a company who have made a financial decision based on information that we're not party to.

I went through all of this in 2001 when Colemans stopped French mustard - it didn't change their mind then and they've ignored all of my letters since.
It still hurts.

I feel your pain bro...

Remember - if FDev don't facilitate a transfer of stuphz to PC, there's always the option to transfer to @Bottom Hat :D
As I don't have a PC anymore and I highly doubt Parallels on my M1 Mac would run Odyssey in anything more than cabbage-o-vision, I think my stuphz will be in safer hands with Señor Hat
My FC is open to console players. Anyone wishing to cash out can message me.

There's always No Man's Sky, the pastel lipstick wearing older dame, who wasn't so popular when young, but several alterations later, younger suitors just keep swarming around.
I"ve already deleted Elite Dangerous (XSX) and am about an hour or two into NMS. As much as I miss some of the features of ED, it's about the closest thing I can find to a space exploration game on console. Unlike Frontier, Hello Games has affirmed their commitment to console and pc players alike through all the massive updates with next generation console specific enhancements. I just can't convey how disappointed I am in Frontier and how this has utterly changed my willingness to ever invest in a game from them again. On a positive note, NMS (first time trying it) is actually pretty fun so far.
