A Note for Arthur, Paul, and the rest of the FDev Community Management Team

Dear Community Management Team,

I am sure you don't hear this enough, so let me say it one more time:

THANK YOU!!!

Being a CMT can be a very difficult job, as you have a very enthusiastic player base with a large variety in experience level and playing styles. You also have business and tech teams that are your internal "customers". Balancing the needs of all your customers to provide the best service to everyone can be extremely arduous, but also very rewarding. Thank you for all you do and for doing your best to communicate as much as you can within the constraints of your role.

Sincerely,
CMDR av8rgeek

I’m especially impressed with their customer communications. Bravo! 👏

I don’t fault the community managers in the slightest for the recent period of silence.

The financial report from early January said that Fdev was re-evaluating some things regarding Elite Dangerous, which we obviously now know was regarding the console question. It’s highly likely that during this reevaluation, the CMs hands were tied by the higher-ups.

So why is the silence continuing - tho' it's possible I missed some dev posts?

Always had huge sympathy for the community managers.

There's a form of execution in which the victim's limbs are tied to horses which are then led off in different directions.

Being a community manager must feel something like that.

Yes, we had the first post of its kind in about ... 3 months? Last year's communication was a blip though, they were in firefighting mode and it seems that has stopped now. And honestly, I'd rather have had a functioning game than a barrage of (buzzword and PR laden, but ultimately empty) communication.

And even if you break down yesterday's post, there's really not that much substance either.

We're still none the wiser about anything beyond this week's patch, and I imagine for quite a few players out there, particularly those who consider moving to PC (which will require some financial but also time investment, if account transfers remain as they are) this is an important factor for making that decision.

We will see I guess how things progress from now on in and the jury will be out for a bit, but I'm expecting FDev to snap back into their usual ways.

Have you ever been positive about anything, Obi?
